The Queen’s daughter finally managed to visit Forres after two failed attempts because of Covid. After landing in Grant Park by helicopter, Princess Anne joined the historic courtroom in the Tolbooth for an hour to meet with NHS and charity workers as well as Moray Council agents who have all helped their community during the worst chapters of the pandemic.
“We were in at the credit union every day during the pandemic to offer financial assistance,” remembers Lorna Creswell, a Forres councillor and chairwoman of Moray Firth Credit Union to The Press and Journal.
“Nobody knew what to expect to support people through this.
“People were furloughed, they’d lost their jobs, couldn’t fill out forms, were home-schooling – it was really quite challenging.”
On Twitter, Emma (@emseyflyerMBE) who attended the gathering shared a couple of pictures and praised the Princess for her involvement.
“It was such a pleasure to meet HRH Princess Anne at lunchtime today on her trip to Moray to meet those who supported Morays COVID response. That’s a whole week of fun and glamour finished!” she tweeted.
A crowd of around 50 onlookers waited for Anne outside and the royal took the time to share a joke with a local busker on Forres High Street who was singing Flower of Scotland, according to the Forres Gazette.
The Princess Royal went on to open AJ Engineering’s new complex at Waterford before heading to Findhorn where she presented Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation (MIRO) with a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
“It’s been a long journey for MIRO since 2005,” chairman John Lowe told the Forres Gazette.
“The Princess was here in 2012 for the dedication of one of our last boats so it’s nice that she’s taken time to come back and see us all again, especially with this award.
“Although this is an award for MIRO, it’s really an award for the whole village because the village has supported MIRO so well since its inception.”
MIRO then invited the Princess Royal for a boat trip around the bay to end her engagement with a moment of fun.
Moray’s Lord-Lieutenant Seymour Monro said: “It was a terrific day and I’m so pleased that the Princess Royal managed to get to Moray.

“She loves coming to Moray.
“We had three very different events, we met community leaders, volunteers and key workers in the Tolbooth, then we went to see AJ Engineering which she loved.
“Then we visited Findhorn.
“She loves the sea and has been to MIRO before, so I’m absolutely delighted she was able to present the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to them because they are an outstanding organisation and it’s thoroughly deserved.”
