Princess Anne has been branded a “royal trooper” for her final duty for the Queen. The Princess Royal continues to prove her devotion to the Crown as she accompanied her late mother’s coffin on the six-hour journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh on Sunday. The hearse travelled through streets lined with Brits who flocked to pay tribute to the Queen who passed away on Thursday.

Princess Anne was accompanied by her husband – Sir Timothy Laurence – as the pair followed the hearse carrying the coffin that was draped in the Royal Standard.

The coffin also had a wreath of flowers taken from the Queen’s beloved Balmoral estate.

As well as taking part in Sunday’s events in Duthie Park, Aberdeen and Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh and today’s procession to St Giles’ Cathedral, Anne will accompany Her Majesty’s coffin on the one-hour RAF flight back to London on Tuesday evening.

Princess Anne has been dubbed the hardest working royal previously, with the Queen appreciating the way she would carry out the most public appearances out of any of the royals, bar King Charles.

The Telegraph called Princess Anne a “royal trooper who always goes the extra mile”.

The grandmother-of-five appeared teary as she was pictured travelling in the car behind her mother’s hearse.

On Saturday, the Princess joined her children Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips as they viewed floral tributes left by well wishers.

Anne was at her mother’s bedside when she passed away on September 8.

Princess Anne shared her love for Scotland with Her Majesty, with her once saying: “Scotland is such a beautiful country with such passionate people, who could fail to want to be a part of it?”

Anne would spend her childhood visiting Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands.

She also shared her love of horse racing with her mother who would regularly attend events throughout the year.

The Queen was said to be incredibly proud of Anne’s equestrian achievements.

After winning one gold medal in 1971 and two silver medals in 1975 at the European Eventing Championships, the Princess became the first royal to compete in the Olympic Games in 1976.

And this love of the sport was passed down to her daughter Zara Tindall who now regularly competes in equestrian events across the country.

Princess Anne built up a reputation as the “hardest working royal” by carrying out multiple appearances in a day.
