Princess Anne, 70, is known to be one of the hardest working members of the Royal Family and has kept up with duties via virtual engagements during lockdown. On Thursday the Princess Royal championed an important cause as she marked International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Anne’s latest engagement was plugged by the Royal Family’s Twitter account in a string of tweets.
The first showed a screenshot of Anne on a call with women from WISE charity and read: “Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
“@thewisecampaign encourages girls and young women to consider paths in science, and to celebrate 20 years as their Patron, The Princess Royal spoke to women who are sharing their experiences of working in STEM.”
A second tweet contained a quote from Princess Anne about the importance of women in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and read: “HRH said: ‘STEM workers are essential contributors, and equal among them, and often leading the way, are many, many women.”
Anne’s statement continued: “‘I hope women already working and studying in STEM will keep sharing their stories, because I have no doubt that those stories will inspire others.'”
Twitter users were quick to praise the Princess Royal for highlighting an important cause.
One wrote: “YES! Women in STEM will always be something I support and champion. Absolutely love this. Girl power.”
Another gushed: “So much to celebrate! Thanks to all who focus on improving the world for all through research, education dedication and action.”
A third chimed in: “STEM is the major focus in my career. I applaud TPR for having this conversation.”
While one fan claimed the Princess Royal didn’t get as much coverage as she deserves, writing: “Anne is a hardworking royal and a lot of what she does is not always shown in the media.”
One Twitter uses called Anne’s latest engagement “fantastic” and called for “Girl Power!”.
They wrote: “Fantastic, this is what I love to see! My daughter-in-law has a PhD in Bio-Chemistry and it is amazing to see more and more women encouraged to pursue a career in the sciences!! Bring on the Girl Power.”

Princess Anne has been spending lockdown at Gatcombe House in Gloucestershire where she is understood to be bubbled up with her daughter Zara Tindall, 39, and her family who live nearby.
Earlier this month Zara’s husband Mike revealed they were still managing to go on walks together.
The former England rugby captain told the Times: “We’re together as a farm in a bubble, so it’s great that you’re with your family 24/7 – stuck with your family – but there’s nothing to do apart from go for walks.”
Princess Anne’s royal status underwent a shift this week following the birth of Princess Eugenie’s, 30, baby.
Eugenie’s son was born on Tuesday and is 11th in line to the throne which means that all the royals below Eugenie in the line of succession have moved down a spot.
Princess Anne is now 15th in line to the throne while her children Peter Phillips Zara and are in 16th and 19th place.
Zara is currently pregnant with her third child and the royal baby is due this spring.
Anne is already a grandmother of four and is said to be excited to welcome a new grandchild.
