The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all interview, which aired in March, is up for outstanding hosted nonfiction series or special at the Emmys. But royal author Duncan Larcombe said the Duke of Cambridge will not be happy about the nomination.

Mr Lacrombe told OK! magazine: “William will feel sick to the pit of his stomach at Harry and Meghan’s Emmys nod.

“The interview was an attack on his family and his wife and is now being heralded as one of the entertainment moments of the year.”

The royal expert added that the nomination is “more bad news” for the Royal Family as the interview will be under the spotlight once again ahead of the Emmys on September 19.

Mr Larcombe said: “The Emmys nod is more bad news for the royals.

“It means that as awards gain momentum, once again Harry and Meghan’s attack on the institution will be repeated over and over again.”

Harry and Meghan, who are living in California after quitting royal duties, made a set of explosive claims in the interview as they poured their hearts out to Oprah.

Meghan singled out Kate, saying the Duchess of Cambridge made her cry ahead of her royal wedding following previous reports that it was the other way round.

The couple also accused an unnamed royal – not the Queen or Duke of Edinburgh – of making a racist comment about their son Archie.

And Meghan claimed she was turned away when she approached the monarchy after being left feeling suicidal.

Harry also laid bare his rifts with his father Prince Charles and older brother William.

At the time, the royals made clear they did not agree with all of the Sussexes’ version of events.

A statement issued by Buckingham Palace highlighted that “some recollections may vary”.

William also angrily denied racism accusations against the royals in a rare outburst during a public engagement days after the bombshell interview.

Oprah and the production team will pick up an award if Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special wins at the Emmys, which recognise excellence in US TV.

The programme is up against My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy, United Shades Of America With W Kamau Bell and documentary series Vice.

Harry and Meghan’s interview plunged the royals into crisis just one year after Megxit.

The Duke of Sussex made further controversial comments about his family in the following weeks.

He has returned to the UK twice since the Oprah interview, for Prince Philip’s funeral in April and for the unveiling of a Princess Diana statue earlier this month.
