Although some travel abroad is now permitted, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been keen to get people going on “staycations” within the UK this year. And that’s exactly what Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge decided to do. William and Kate took Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, on a family trip to the Isles of Scilly off Cornwall.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice on foreign travel is likely to change at a moment’s notice, as was the case for Spain last month when it was taken off the FCO exemption list.
And according to reports, Kate and William opted not to take their children abroad in case they needed to isolate for two weeks after arriving back.
If the Cambridge’s had to do so, it is believed the need to quarantine would greatly disrupt their planned working schedules for the following fortnight.
So instead the couple decided on Tresco in the Isles of Scilly for their family holiday this year, it has been reported.
A Royal source told The Mirror: “They decided on a quick getaway before the children return to school.
“They were keen to support our travel industry.”
The isles of Scilly undoubtedly hold a place in Prince William’s heart for a number of reasons.
Firstly William’s choice of holiday destination has sweet links to his own childhood trips.
Prince William visited the islands as a child back in 1989 with his father Prince Charles and his mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
In pictures of their visit over three decades ago, William and his brother Prince Harry can be seen riding bikes with their mother and smiling.
William has also visited the islands on a number of other occasions.
In an official capacity, Kate and William toured the islands back in 2016.

On his royal visit, William reminisced about how much he enjoyed his visit as a seven-year-old.
But rumours also abounded in 2011 that the newlywed Duke and Duchess also visited the islands after tying the knot.
One day Prince William will inherit Tresco as it is part of the Duchy of Cornwall, which is currently in the possession of Prince Charles as Duke of Cornwall.
The Cambridges are thought to have returned from their holiday this weekend.
But according to another holidaymaker, who spotted the family while also visiting the isles, they had a wonderful time while they were away.
The holidaymaker told the Mirror: “William and Kate were riding their bicycles, having a laugh.
“They looked so happy enjoying the weather.
“I did do a double take. They were really friendly and said hello.”
