Former Sun Royal Editor Duncan Larcombe warned the Royal Family’s charity and public work could be outdone by Prince Harry and Meghan as the couple have stronger connections to big celebrity events. Mr Larcombe explained both the Royal Family and Harry would be unable to attend the same events but the Duke of Sussex has the upper hand by making himself available for these events. The royal expert added while Prince William and Kate will want the limelight they may have to fight for it from Harry.
Speaking to talkRADIO, Mr Larcombe discussed the rift between William and Harry and how the relationship between the brothers could play out.
After presenter Mark Dolan asked Mr Larcombe whether William is someone who holds a grudge the conversation quickly turned to Harry’s life in America.
Mr Larcombe said: “It’s revealed that Harry and Meghan are part of a star act where they’ll join the likes of JLo and all these incredible A-list celebrities as they hold a concert to raise money for the vaccine and Covid.
“And it’s tagged that Covid will bring the world together, so the reason that’s interesting is William and Kate are slowly going back to doing work now that lockdown is easing and they’ll want to bring people together too.
“But it’s not them that are on massive streaming services in America with the likes of JLo, the A-listers and the celebrity royals.
“Frankly, the more Harry and Meghan try and encroach on William and Kate’s territory – I can’t see that riff getting any better.”
Mr Dolan then added the publicity stunts from Harry and Meghan will be their “business model” for “years to come”.
Mr Larcombe agreed and said: “I don’t think anyone will say I was wrong in suggesting that it is their royal tag which is why Harry and Meghan are able to command hundreds of millions of dollars.
Lorraine Kelly On Prince Harry’s Frosty Reception From Family
“And also why they seem to be at the very top wish list of all these groups.
“That’s the point, with Prince Harry and Meghan being available for things like these global concert events – they’re being asked and the phone’s not ringing for William.
“That’s the problem, that’s why William needs to be there because he needs these big high profile events that raise his status beyond that sort of the Hollywood A-list celebrities.
“That’s really hard to do when you’ve got the younger brother being called up for invitations before you.”
Daily Mirror Royal Editor Russell Myers revealed in an interview earlier this week that insiders believe Prince Harry may not attend the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue in July.
Mr Myers explained the “frosty” reception the Duke of Sussex faced at Prince Philip’s funeral meant the prince may put off meeting his family later this year.
The statue, commissioned by both brothers, is set to be unveiled at Kensington Palace in July and would have been the first time the sibling met face-to-face if not for Prince Philip’s funeral.
