Prince William to make significant visit to New York after last trip cancelled
Prince William delivers speech at Earthshot Prize Awards
Prince William is set to visit New York later this year after his planned trip last September was cancelled due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Her Majesty passed away at Balmoral on September 8, with her state funeral being held on September 19, and the Royal Family had to observe the traditional period of mourning meaning they could not carry out any engagements.
The Prince had been due to go to the Big Apple on September 21 last year for the inaugural Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, however as he could not attend he recorded a video message instead.
This year he will be there in person to meet with the 2023 finalists of his environmental awards, with the winners being announced towards the end of year.
During the two-day trip William is expected to attend a number of events in connection with the prize and unveil the 15 solutions up for the awards, of which five will receive the £1million prize money in their chosen category.

The Earthshot Prize, led and founded by Prince William and the Royal Foundation, aims to discover and aid in setting up solutions to help repair our planet and fight climate change.
Every year five separate prizes of £1million each are awarded to the winners in five different categories, or Earthshots: Protect and restore nature; Clean our air; Revive our oceans; Build a waste-free world; and Fix our climate.
In November 2022 William and his wife Princess Kate travelled to Boston in Massachusetts for the Earthshot Prize Awards, which will this year be hosted in Singapore.

The last time Kate and William travelled to New York for an official visit was in 2014 for a three-day whirlwind tour while Kate was pregnant with their daughter Princess Charlotte.
The summit this year falls on September 18, during New York Climate Week, with the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly being held the following day.
Former New York mayor and business news mogul Mike Bloomberg will speak at the event as he is also a global adviser to the Earthshot winners.
In his video message recorded last year the Prince told those attending the summit: “During this time of grief, I take great comfort in your continued enthusiasm, optimism and commitment to The Earthshot Prize and what we are trying to achieve.
“Protecting the environment was a cause close to my Grandmother’s heart, and I know she would have been delighted to hear about this event and the support you are all giving our Earthshot Finalists – the next generation of environmental pioneers.
“Together in this room, are the people and organisations who will help us to achieve the Earthshot mission: to repair, restore and rejuvenate our planet within this current decade. That mission is not simple.”
