Prince William recalls ‘seeing death’ as an air ambulance pilot

Prince William, 38, is the eldest child of Prince Charles, 72, and the late Princess Diana. William and his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, 39, are future heads of the monarchy and provide vital support to the crown. As with all senior royals, William has a number of titles, honours and ceremonial military appointments – here they are in full.

Prince William’s official royal title

Prince William has had a His Royal Highness (HRH) style and royal title from birth.

William was born on June 21, 1982, and from his birth until his wedding day on April 29, 2011, his official royal title was His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales.

In keeping with royal custom, William received a new title from the Queen upon his wedding day to Kate.

Since then he and Kate have been the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince William’s current official title is His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge.

He also holds the subsidiary titles of The Earl of Strathearn in Scotland and Baron Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland.

The Duke is also a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, a member of the Privy Council of the United Kingdom, and a Personal Aide-de-Camp to the Queen.

Prince William’s military ranks

As is custom for senior male members of the Royal Family, Prince William had a career in the Armed Forces before dedicating himself to the crown fulltime.

During his time in the forces, William earnt ranks in the British Army, The Royal Navy and The Royal Air Force.
