Prince William thinks Charles is ‘incompetent’ and plans to rip up his legacy

Prince William thinks that King Charles is “incompetent” in his role as monarch, according to royal author Omid Scobie.

According to the newly-released book Endgame, which is out today, Mr Scobie writes how William feels inspired by his late grandmother’s reign and delivered a scathing verdict of the King’s current handling of the top job.

Mr Scobie claims that William admires the late Queen’s 70-years on the throne and wants to mirror her when his time on the throne comes.

In Endgame, a source close to the Prince of Wales has claimed that he sees Charles as a “transitional” King and one who will “pave the way” for his own future reign.

A source has said: “William [doesn’t] think his father is competent enough, quite frankly.”

The source added: “Though they share similar passions and interests, their style of leadership is completely different.”

One area that the King and William haven’t seen eye-to-eye is the way the monarch handled the Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

According to Mr Scobie’s Endgame, William was keen to take decisive action in the scandal, while the King delayed it.

In the book, a source close to the King is quoted as saying: “You’d find it hard to believe but [Charles lay] awake many nights worrying about [Andrew].”

While the King is still financially supporting Andrew – who stepped back from royal duties in 2019 – Mr Scobie says that this can’t be expected to continue if William ascends to the throne.”

Mr Scobie writes: “While King Charles has, so far, shown no inclination of conclusively stopping his support for his wayward brother, Andrew would be foolish to think that William will unquestionably support his uncle in the same way.

“It’s fair to say, the next King is the one in the family who inherited Prince Philip’s assertiveness when it comes to protecting the Crown. Until then, though, Andrew remains a wild card and one that can still inflict considerable damage to the monarchy.”

Mr Scobie also claims that William played a huge part in stripping Andrew of his titles.

Although he admired her role as Queen, Mr Scobie claims Prince William felt his late grandmother would be “soft” on Prince Andrew unless he voiced his own concerns to her.

The late Queen and Charles were reportedly “not ready” to start the process as quickly as William appeared to have liked.

Joining up with his private secretary, William wanted to get ‘the Andrew problem’ underway and planned to set up a meeting with his grandmother and her private secretary in her residential quarters at Windsor.
