William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge are regularly seen at major events, most recently at Euro 2020 as England made history reaching the final, as William is the President of the Football Association. They were also among spectators at Wimbledon, as Kate is the Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Royal fans speculated this week that actress Priyanka Chopra purposely ignored William and Kate as they arrived at Centre Court for the Women’s singles final.
A clip circulated online of Ms Chopra adjusting her scarf and looking away from the Cambridges as they arrived to cheers.
William and Kate regularly meet those from the world of showbiz, and this led to an awkward moment in 2018.
Emma Thompson was awarded the status of Dame Commander of the British Empire by William.
She told reporters following the meeting: “I love Prince William. I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other.
“I said, ‘I can’t kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No, don’t!’”
Asked about William, she added: “He’s looking wonderful and doing so well. He said, ‘This day isn’t about me, it’s about you.’”
Speaking about the encounter on the Jonathan Ross Show this year, she was full of praise for William.
Ms Thompson said: “His face and body language, so kind and generous to every single person. I’ve known him since he was little really. I’ve always liked him.
“I asked him about him and he said, ‘Will you please stop talking about me, it’s about you.’ What a nice man.”
Ms Thompson was also asked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in the interview, which took place earlier that year.
She was dismissive of the event, but offered sympathy to the Sussexes amid their royal struggles.
Ms Thompson said: “Not a single thought in my head about it to share with you, I’m so sorry. It doesn’t occur to me. My son’s getting married next year so I’m much more sort of dealing with that.
“Stop it, just stop it, OK? Stop doing the ‘Oh, let’s talk about the royal wedding.’ Really bad. Really bad.
“Just give the poor kids a break.”
Ms Thompson, who has starred in films such as ‘Love Actually’ and ‘Nanny McPhee’, also has a close relationship with Prince Charles.

When his marriage with Princess Diana ran into difficulty, Ms Thompson would send him “funny letters” to try and cheer him up, as reported by The Times.
Prince William’s relationship with his brother Harry has been strained in recent years, but reports suggest they could be building bridges.
A source told US Weekly last week: “William and Harry spent the morning before the statue unveiling looking through old keepsakes, notes from Diana, and bonding.
“They have absolutely turned a new page in their relationship and have started the healing. Everyone around them was thrilled to see how close they were on the day of the statue unveiling.”
At the start of July, the brothers came together to unveil a new statue of their mother Diana in Kensington Palace’s Garden on what would have been her 60th birthday.
