Prince William leaves Teen Heroes speechless as he opens doors to ‘amazing winners’

Prince William has opened the doors of Kensington Palace to meet with Radio 1’s Teen Heroes of 2021 to congratulate the youngsters on their “selfless, brave and exceptional” achievements. Radio 1’s Teen Heroes is an annual celebration of outstanding teenagers who have proven their dedication to helping others. This is the fifth year that Radio 1’s Teen Heroes have been invited to Kensington Palace as a personal thanks from the Duke.

Greg James announced the news on Radio 1. 

He said: “Now I can talk about the real serious surprise that’s happening. And this will be happening before Christmas.

“So, before Christmas, we’re all gonna have a little day trip together. We’re gonna get a little mini bus and you teen heroes have been invited to Kensington Palace you have been invited to meet the Duke of Cambridge because the Duke of Cambridge wanted to tell you how amazing you are.

“So you’re all going to be hanging out with the future king of England because he just wants to say hi to you.

He added: “We need to work out what we’re going to wear guys. This is serious you meeting actual royalty.

“The Duke of Cambridge was like, oh yeah, they sound incredible. Let’s set up a meeting. And so we’re going to the actual Kensington Palace.

He added: “I just love the fact that you guys are now surely going to realise how much of an inspiration you are because this just shows you guys how amazing you are.”

He added: “Yeah, the stories reach far and wide. We’re going to go down and meet the future king of England to talk about teen heroes. So there you go. Congratulations on being legends.”

Prince George's Christmas list discussed by royal commentators

Five teens attended Tuesday’s meeting where they spoke to the Duke about the work and projects they have been involved in.

Radio host Greg James said: “The whole point of the Teen Heroes is to make a fuss of some remarkable young people who wouldn’t ever think they deserved it. 

“If going to Kensington Palace to meet the future king isn’t making a fuss of them, then I’m out of ideas.

“It was a really special afternoon and William gave them so much time to hear their stories and offer support to them as they continue to put themselves out for others.”

One of the Young Heroes includes Jake, aged 14, from Bristol, who is a great fundraiser for bereavement causes, following the deaths of his half-sister and grandmother. 

Each year to help raise money Jake puts on a spectacular Christmas light display at his house and has raised over £10,000.
