Prince William awkwardly left hanging while Kate chats to bride at royal wedding

Prince William appeared to get restless in front of the newly married Crown Prince of Jordan and his wife after Kate became engrossed in conversation.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen at the wedding of Hussein bin Abdullah, the 28-year-old heir to the Jordanian throne, and Saudi Arabian architect Rajwa Al Saif, 29, in Amman on Thursday.

As a legion of star guests queued to congratulate the newlyweds, the British royals stopped for a brief chat with them.

Footage shows William saying his goodbyes and beginning to walk away before realising Kate had lingered to exchange more words with the bride.

He then gestures briskly with his hand and mutters a comment which some royal watchers thought was: ‘Chop chop!’

Kate then ended the conversation and went to join her husband.

The moment sparked debate on social media, with one Twitter user commenting: ‘If anyone I was seeing told me to chop chop when speaking to the bride at a wedding they’d face a quiet evening of contemplation.’

Another wrote: ‘How is he still walking?’

Others disagreed with this interpretation of events, with some suggesting he meant the comment ‘playfully’ or had actually said ‘congratulations’.

Jordan was said to be gripped by their own royal fever over the ultra-lavish wedding, which saw a royal red motorcade cross the capital, a star-studded free concert at Amman International and a crown-shaped drone display in the sky.

Such public displays are uncommon among most other Arab monarchies, who prefer to keep their private lives out of the spotlight.

Guests included the US first lady, Jill Biden, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and his wife Maxima, and Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden.

The Waleses’ attendance came as a surprise to the UK public, as it was confirmed only a few hours before the ceremony.

William and Hussein both graduates from the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst, had met on a number of official visits by the British prince.

The pair were photographed watching the 2018 England vs Panama World Cup game in the plush TV room of the Beit Al Urdun Palace.

Kate, who lived in Jordan for three years as a young child, joined William with Prince George, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis for a family holiday there in 2021.

They were joined by Princess Beatrice, 34, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 39.

The ceremony was conducted by the Royal Hashemite Court Imam in a garden-facing hall of the Zahran Palace, in front of a beaming King Abdullah II and Queen Rania.

It concluded with a customary performance of ‘zagharit’ ululations by female guests and the cutting of a seven-tier cake.

Kate wore a £5000 Jenny Packham sequin gown to the reception at the Al Husseiniya Palace, while William appeared in a crisp tailcoat suit.

The rest of the celebrations included performances by local singers, a choir group, the national orchestra, and folk dance troupes.

Inn a statement released after the ceremony, Jordanian palace officials said: ‘The Royal Hashemite Court extends its heartfelt congratulations to Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, as well as the Royal Hashemite Family, and wishes Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein and Princess Rajwa Al Hussein a lifetime of happiness.’
