Prince Harry reportedly turned down plans to heal a rift with his brother, Prince William, after he and Meghan Markle gave an interview to ITV on their 2019 tour of South Africa. Prince William sent a WhatsApp message to Harry asking if they could meet following the interview, which Harry reportedly refused. Author Valentine Low made the revelations in his book “Courtiers: Intrigue, Ambition, and the Power Players Behind the House of Windsor”.
Going over the revelation made in the book, The Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden told Palace Confidential: “That was a programme that was meant to be all about their tour of Africa, focusing on these regions and the problems they’ve got there.
“But it turned out to be all about Harry – and particularly Meghan.
“It’s the one where she made the comment about ‘nobody’s asked about how I am’.
“So after this was broadcast, William was very upset apparently – very astonished really – to see the mindset.”
Mr Eden said: “Harry had been asked abour his relationship with William and he said: ‘we’re on different path’.
“It was really stark, like nothing we’ve heard before in public.
“And William was shocked.
“And the first thing he wants to do is go and is see his brother and talk about it.”
The book claims Prince William tried reconcile with his Harry but was rebuffed, sparking the beginning of the rift.
At the time of interview with ITV for the documentary “Harry and Meghan: An African Journey”, William started developing concerns about the Sussexes’ happiness inside the Royal Family, as he realised th family was “in crisis.”
Meghan was openly speaking about her struggles as a mother and newly-wed in the royal spotlight.
And when asked about the rift with William, Harry he didn’t deny it.

Harry then told ITV’s Tom Bradby: “We are certainly on different paths at the moment, but I will always be there for him, as I know he will always be there for me.”
After hearing the comments, Prince William reportedly texted Harry on WhatsApp, asking if they could meet after the interview.
The book said: “Initially, Harry was in favour. Then he spoke to his brother again, and asked him whom he would tell. William explained that he’d have to clear his schedule, which would mean telling his private secretary. At that point, Harry told him: Don’t come.”
Shortly after the interview, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their senior roles and moved to North America.
