Prince William and Prince Harry sparked speculation of trouble in their relationship after the brothers appeared to grow cooler towards each other following the Duke of Sussex’s marriage in May 2018. Harry admitted he and his elder brother had long been on “different paths”, suggesting he would prefer to pursue new endeavours for himself and his wife Meghan Markle. Royal expert Katie Nicholl claimed the Duke of Sussex and the Duke of Cambridge had been working on mending bridges during the lockdown but the publication of a new biography on Prince Harry and Meghan threw a spanner in the process.
Speaking to ET, Ms Nicholl said: “My understanding was that the relationship between the royal brothers was on a better track than it was when Harry left.
“I think they became closer during the lockdown, particularly when the Prince of Wales was not well. I was told the boys were in regular touch on the phone.
“We don’t know whether they’ve spoken in light of this serialisation and the many headlines it has generated but I think it’s safe to say this has done the relationship no help at all.”
The biography ‘Finding Freedom, which is due to come out in August, was serialised during the weekend and sparked further speculation about the state of William and Harry’s relationship.

The book claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex felt William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge had not “rolled out the red carpet” for them after they married.
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand also suggested Prince Harry had interpreted William’s advice to get to know Meghan better before committing to her as “snobbish”.
A representative for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Saturday said the couple had not contributed to the creation of the book and had given no interviews during its production.
Ms Nicholl said the claims made within the book had realised one of the Royal Family’s biggest fears about the impact it could have on William and Harry.

She continued: “I do know that the Royal Family’s concern about this book was always that it was going to open up old wounds and I think it very much has done that just as they seemed to have moved on from Megxit and from all the damage from earlier on this year.
“Suddenly this book has reopened a Pandora’s box and is just not going away. So I think this book and all the revelations in it won’t do anything to help the brothers’ relationship which was on the road to repair.”
The royal commentator added: “I don’t think the relationship was ever back on track as it was once was but things were getting better.
“One can only imagine that these devastating headlines alleging that Kate wasn’t welcoming enough, they didn’t roll out the red carpet, that William was snobbish towards Meghan…that’s not going to help a reconciliation between the royal princes.”

Prince Harry announced during a brief visit to the UK in January he and Meghan had decided to take a step back from royal life.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their announcement via social media and maintained they wanted to continue representing the Queen on a scaled-down basis while seeking their financial independence from the Royal Family.
But following a series of meetings with Her Majesty, Prince Charles and Prince William at Sandringham, the couple confirmed they had agreed to a one-year trial period to establish themselves away from the monarchy.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle undertook a final series of engagements across the UK in March before reuniting with their son Archie in Canada.
