The “hostility” between Prince William and Prince Harry could have a damaging effect on a joint royal event this summer, a commentator has claimed. The brothers are meant to be unveiling a statue they commissioned in honour of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, on what would have been her 60th birthday. Media writer Sophie Elsworth spoke to Sky News Australia about concerns that the Duke of Sussex may not be able to attend.

She told viewers: “I can’t see the two of them showing up to this.

“It’s so hostile between all of them.

“Obviously that tell-all with Oprah has just left more wounds in the Royal Family.

“So I think it’s highly unlikely.”

Ms Elsworth continued: “If I was Meghan, I would be staying well away.

“I can’t see the two of them attending this.

“I’d be shocked if they rolled in.”

The majority of concern about Harry’s attendance has revolved around coronavirus travel restrictions.

Although the UK’s Government’s roadmap out of lockdown has suggested the harshest measures may be lifted by June, there is no guarantee.

Harry’s arrival will depend on the travel rules in both the US and UK.

Additionally, it could be affected by the birth of his and Meghan’s new baby.

In their interview with Oprah, the couple revealed that they are expecting a girl.

Also, they said that she is likely to arrive in the summer.

The timing of the pregnancy makes it unlikely that Meghan will be able to attend in-person.

However, it could also mean that Harry is unable to as well.

A suggestion has been made that he could participate virtually.
