Prince William and Kate not ready for ‘humiliating’ reunion with Sussexes

Royals: Expert says Harry feud wouldn’t happen if Diana was alive

Prince William and Kate, the Princess of Wales would see a Christmas reunion with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as a “humiliating” exercise in self-restraint, a friend of the royal claimed.

The Prince of Wales has been at odds with Prince Harry for years, a division further exacerbated by comments the Duke made about his brother and sister-in-law since stepping down.

Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming the two princes could soon be forced to meet at a Sandringham Christmas dinner.

The suggestion was shut down shortly after, with a copy of the invite list leaked to the press showing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would not be asked to attend.

A friend of the Prince of Wales claimed he and Kate would not have likely “signed up” for a possible confrontation with the California-based couple over Christmas dinner.

They told The Daily Beast: “Would you want to sit down for a slap-up Christmas lunch with someone who had basically called you an a****** in public?”

The insider also argued the Prince and Princess of Wales would prefer to avoid the “total humiliation” of making small talk with Harry and Meghan.

And a source close to King Charles insisted His Majesty will “carefully” plan any move towards inviting Meghan and Harry back into the fold for family events.

The royals have put their differences aside on multiple occasions since the Sussexes left the institution, mainly at times of national celebration such as the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee or to mourn the loss of senior family members.

But following the release of the pair’s Harry & Meghan docuseries and the publication of the Duke’s memoir, relations have once again frozen up.

The King’s friend said: “When an invite does come, it will be carefully thought-through and it will be on his terms.”

Royals have come together at Sandringham during the Christmas period in a tradition established during the reign of the King’s grandfather, King George VI.

The Duchess of Sussex set a new precedent in 2017 by becoming the first royal fiancée to join the private celebrations – as usually partners would only be invited after they married into the family.

Prince William and Kate, who own Anmer Hall just off the main estate, are expected to join the King and Queen Camilla with their three children.

His Majesty’s siblings and their families have also joined in the celebrations in the past.
