Prince William and Kate defended by those visited for train tour ‘Phenomenal thing for us’

Kate Middleton and Prince William: Public discuss royal’s visit

Prince William and Kate have faced criticism for travelling around the country during the coronavirus pandemic. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled by train to thank key workers in various areas around the country for all of their work during the year. Royal commentators Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson, who were following the couple, interviewed some key workers who were very appreciative of the gesture by the Cambridges.

Many insisted it was a great morale boost and an essential and important trip.

Mr Ship said: “Very quickly let us give you a flavour of all the people we spoke to as we travelled around the country to see what they thought about what Prince William and Kate did.

“We will show what they said in regards to how appreciated they were for being recognised in this way,

A man who was visited by the royal couple said: “We have all worked hard across the country to do the very best we can.

“I certainly saw teachers appreciating their thanks to us.”

A woman added: “For them to come and say thank you, to take notice, I think it is a phenomenal thing for us.

“To know that people care.”

Another added: “It is lovely that we have got a visit today.

“I am not a politician, so for the staff and the residents it will mean that there will be a highlight from 2020 which there hasn’t been many.”

While another key worker said: “I think it was essential for moral.

“That has been a real morale boost for all of us key workers.”

Mr Ship concluded that he had seen large swathes of people appreciating the gesture from the Duke and Duchess.

He said: “You can see, no question at all, were they appreciated, yes they were.

“They really did thank William and Kate for what they did.”

Ms Robinson added: “There is no doubt that it means a lot to me that William and Kate took the time to see them and say thank you.

“This is a thank you on behalf of a nation that has relied on these people through a very difficult year.

“I think it did mean a lot, everything we saw was done as safely as possible, there was social distancing and they wore masks when they needed to.
