Peter Hunt told LBC’s Eddie Mair Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah has brought tensions to a head between the brothers. The royal commentator added the monarchy and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now in a battle regarding the narrative on their departure from the Royal Family.
Mr Hunt said: “There is definitely a serious potentially terminal deterioration in the relationship between William and Harry that is being played out by the brothers and by their proxies.”
Mr Mair asked: “What’s brought it to this level now?”
The royal commentator replied: “I think it’s that interview that has brought it to a head now.
“What is going on is a battle for what we think, what listeners think… on why this couple chose self-enforced exile in California over a full-time role in the House of Windsor.
“And do we accept the narrative when we sit down and watch that television programme.
“We already know that they believe that they had to go in order to survive or do we accept what the critics believe, that they are also responsible for some of their behavours that has led us to where we are now.
“That is why it is such an issue at this very moment.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey is set to air this Sunday evening on CBS.
Meghan and Harry 'should relinquish royal titles' says host
Last month, Mark Dolan told talkRADIO that Prince Harry has “paid the price” for severing ties with Prince William and the country he loves.
Mr Dolan slammed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s conduct and called for the couple to be stripped of their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
The talkRADIO host also labelled the couple’s decision to do an interview with Oprah Winfrey as disloyal in the extreme.
Mr Dolan said: “The Queen has restored freedom to this couple, given it back, but freedom comes at a price.

“The couple should relinquish their official title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the reason why is because it is those sort of traditions that they are rejecting which have opened the door for those multimillion-pound deals with Hollywood.
“Don’t get me started on the Oprah interview, that is disloyalty in the extreme.
“It’s a sad situation and it is getting more absurd but now this sorry tail is coming to an end.
“It is sad especially for Harry who has severed his relationship with the country he loves and with the brother he loves too.
“He has paid a price and to me, at times he looks like a hostage.”
