The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are said to be experiencing a “renaissance” in their relationship following the Duke of Sussex’s exit from the Royal Family. It follows reports of a rift in Harry and William’s relationship.

A source close to William and Charles said the father and son had grown closer together in the wake of Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

They told The Sunday Times: “Part of William’s evolution is that as he has become closer to his father, he sees their similarities.

“At William’s wedding there was a gag in one of the speeches that he was more like his father than he’d ever admit, which made a lot of us laugh.

“As their respective destinies get closer, it weighs more heavily on them and strengthens the bond.

“The rift with Harry has also brought them closer.”

Another royal courtier told the newspaper William and Queen Elizabeth II have also grown closer since Megxit.

They suggested William had helped the Royal Family work through a number of difficult moments.

The courtier added: “That has changed the way the Queen sees him and values his input.”

William is also believed to feel he and his grandmother’s relationship has “massively improved” in recent years, and their views are “more aligned than ever”, according to the courtier.

Issues between Harry and William emerged shortly after the Sussex royals started to move in a different direction.

Charles has been described as “deeply hurt” over Harry and Meghan’s interview with Ms Winfrey.

A friend of the Prince of Wales told the Mail on Sunday: “You are looking at a father who is deeply hurt by where he finds his relationship with his son.

“But, after much reflection, he also realises that nothing good will come of prolonging the fight.

“He feels it is time to heal. Now is the time to mend a broken relationship.”
