Prince Philip news: Will Prince Philip be at Trooping the Colour for Queen’s birthday?
Prince Philip, who will soon celebrate his 98th birthday, was most recently spotted at Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding to Thomas Kingston on May 18. The Duke has taken things more slowly since his retirement, which was announced in August 2017. Whilst the Queen still regularly attends royal engagements, Philip instead chooses a select few to attend by her side.
He is frequently spotted driving around or riding a horse and carriage but has kept a low profile since his retirement.
A statement from Buckingham Palace on the subject of Prince Philip’s duties when he retired said: “The Duke of Edinburgh will no longer undertake his own program of public engagements.
“The Captain General’s Parade will bring His Royal Highness’s individual program to a conclusion, although he may choose to attend certain events, alongside The Queen, from time to time.”
He has attended several weddings, that of his grandson Prince Harry to Meghan Markle in May 2018, and then again five months later at granddaughter Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Will Prince Philip be at Trooping the Colour for Queen’s birthday?
Prince Philip did not attend last year’s Trooping the Colour, with the Queen carried alone in her carriage to the Horse Guards Parade.
Last year the Duke had undergone extensive hip replacement surgery but had been well enough to attend Meghan and Harry’s wedding two months before.
Given the statement from the palace on Philip’s retirement, it is his choice whether to attend an event or not.
Ahead of Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October 2018, the Telegraph reported that Prince Philip “now operates on a ‘wake up and see how I feel’ basis”.

Another source told People magazine earlier in 2018: “He does what he wants.”
This means that the Duke could well wait until the day of Trooping the Colour itself to make a decision as to whether he will attend.
When is Trooping the Colour?
Trooping the Colour is an event which celebrates the Queen’s birthday – but does not take place on her actual birthday.

Typically monarchs who do not have a summer month birthday have a second celebration which usually falls on the second Saturday in June.
This is to try and ensure the weather is fine enough to hold the outdoor celebration that is Trooping the Colour.
Trooping the Colour will this year be held on Saturday, June 8 from 10am.
According to the official Royal Family website, Trooping the Colour will see: “Over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians” who “come together each June in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare to mark The Queen’s official birthday.”
