Buckingham Palace has published a selection of pictures of the Duke since his death last Friday at the age of 99. And a photo posted on the official Royal Family Twitter account showing Prince Philip as a student at Gordonstoun boarding school sparked immediate comparisons with Harry.

One Twitter user said: “OMG! Wow, this is young Prince Harry.”

Another said: “Now he really does look like Harry in this pic.

“I had never seen it before despite many commenting on social media. But I see it in this photo.

Another said: “Harry = his mother’s son and his grandpa’s grandson.”

Another Twitter user said: “He looks just like Harry.”

And another commented: “I have been seeing lots of photos of Prince Philip since his death and Harry really resembles his grandfather.”

Prince Harry, who stood down from royal duties to begin a new life in the USA with his wife Meghan Markle and son Archie Harrison last year, has returned to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral.

And in a move which means he will be the only close family members not in military uniform at Saturday’s service, the Queen has decided senior royals should wear civilian clothing.

Harry lost his honorary military titles after deciding to step down as a senior working royal.

The no-uniform rule has been described as “the most eloquent solution to the problem”.

The decision is a break with tradition for ceremonial royal funerals and will contrast with the strong military presence which will be on show to honour Philip, who served with distinction in the Second World War.

Protocol suggests that Harry, who did two tours of Afghanistan, can only wear a suit with medals at royal functions.

In his tribute to Philip, Prince Harry said: “My grandfather was a man of service, honour and great humour.

“He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm – and also because you never knew what he might say next.

“He will be remembered as the longest reigning consort to the monarch, a decorated serviceman, a prince and a duke.

“But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right ’til the end.”

He continued: “He has been a rock for Her Majesty the Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for 73 years of marriage, and while I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, ‘Oh do get on with it!’

“So, on that note, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Granny, and for always being yourself.

“You will be sorely missed, but always remembered – by the nation and the world.

“Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts.
