Prince Louis, three, has yet to mark an important royal milestone his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte have already reached. The little Cambridge is the only child of Kate and William not to have taken part in the Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk.
This service is particularly poignant as it is attended by the Queen, who arrives by car with one or two royals accompanying her, and her extended family staying at Sandringham House over the festive period.
The royals normally walk the brief distance from the sovereign’s residence to the church.
And after the service they stop to speak with some of the royal watchers and well-wishers who line up for hours to catch a glimpse of them.
George and Charlotte made their debut together at St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas 2019.
The children, then aged six and four respectively, walked with Kate towards some members of the public following the service.
While George appeared more shy, his sister exchanged a few words with some of the bystanders and even hugged one royal fan who donated to her an inflatable pink flamingo.
On the day, Prince Louis remained at Sandringham House given his young age.
However, this year he may join his siblings at church if the Queen hosts the traditional royal lunch at Sandringham, as Louis has already taken part in a few important public events.
In 2019, aged only one, he made his debut on the iconic balcony of Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen’s official birthday.
During the Trooping the Colour flypast, Louis melted royal watchers’ hearts by looking slightly unimpressed by the grand parade.
A few months later, in December 2020, the young Cambridge walked on a red carpet for the first time.
Between lockdowns, Louis headed to the London Palladium with Kate, Prince William and siblings – Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
There, the Cambridges watched a special pantomime show staged to thank key workers and their families for their efforts during the pandemic.
Louis also made an appearance in April 2020, when he stepped out of his home in Norfolk with Kate, William and his siblings to pay tribute to key workers with the Clap for Carers initiative.
Prince Louis turned three on April 23.
His parents publicly marked his birthday sharing an adorable picture of the tot taken by the Duchess of Cambridge on his first day of nursery school.
In the snap, the child has a cheeky smiles as he holds a shiny red balance bike.
Buckingham Palace has yet to reveal the Royal Family’s Christmas plans for 2021, after they were forced by the Covid pandemic to spend last year’s holidays apart.
But in late October, a source claimed the sovereign is “totally committed” to hosting her extended family in Norfolk as she has done for the past three decades.
The source told the Mirror: “This year, more than ever, it is incredibly important to Her Majesty to be surrounded by her loved ones.
“The Queen is totally committed to hosting everyone as she hopes to make it back to full health in the coming weeks.
“After being forced to cancel a host of engagements, the family get-together will be the perfect tonic.”
This will mark the first Christmas the monarch will spend without her husband Prince Philip, who died on April 9.
