Kate and Prince William are aware of how welcomed and anticipated are the pictures of their children, usually released on their birthdays or during the festive period, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams. And he believes the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may decide to publicly mark the third birthday of Prince Louis tomorrow, just after the end of the period of royal mourning in the wake of Prince Philip’s death.
He told Express.co.uk: “The tradition of releasing a photograph of royal children, which William and Kate have continued and which marks an important way in which we can see them growing up, is a marvellous one.
“Kate has proved herself a talented photographer too.
“The period of royal mourning will last until the day before Louis’s third birthday.
“It is therefore likely that we will see a photograph of him if this is thought appropriate.
“William and Kate have handled the way they have released so many charming photographs of their family impeccably and they know that these images have brought much pleasure to their many followers online and to the wider world.”
While the national period of mourning after Prince Philip’s death ended on Sunday, for members of the Royal Family it will end tonight.
Tomorrow, Prince Louis is turning three and is set to mark the day in London, where his siblings George and Charlotte are attending school.
Last year, Kate and Prince William delighted royal fans in the midst of the first national lockdown by releasing a series of pictures of Prince Louis.
The two-year-old was photographed with his open hands drenched in paint after having coloured a rainbow as a sign of support for the NHS.
In another snap, Prince Louis smeared his cheeks with paint, resulting in an adorable mess.
A few weeks later, Kate – an amateur photographer who often takes pictures of her family – recalled the chaos that ensued behind the scenes while she was attempting to take the birthday snaps.
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, she said: “I should’ve taken a photograph of what I looked like after as well!
“Luckily, that wasn’t documented but I was pretty much…
“I looked like Louis at the end of those.”
Prince Louis, who was born at St Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing, was last seen in public in December last year when he and his family attended a special performance of Pantoland.
The little royal walked down the red carpet of the London Palladium holding hands with his mother Kate.
Inside the theatre, he appeared captivated by the play.
Prince Louis and his siblings did not attend the funeral of Prince Philip, both because of their young age and for the limited amount of people allowed at the service due to Government guidelines on coronavirus.
Prince Philip died aged 99 on the morning of April 9.
On April 17, 30 members of the Royal Family including the Queen, her four children and eight grandchildren gathered to take part in the funeral.
After the service, much of which had been agreed in advance by the Duke
himself, 15 royals were invited to a reception at the castle.
Prince William and his brother Harry were spotted speaking to one another in public for the first time since the Commonwealth Day service in March 2020.
