The Duke of Sussex travelled from the US to Britain for the first time since Megxit and the Oprah Winfrey interview for Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday. Harry reportedly wrote to his father the Prince of Wales ahead of his return.
A source told the Mirror: “Truth be told, Harry didn’t really know what to expect before he came home, which is why he reached out before seeing everyone.
“He wrote a deeply personal note to his dad to try and set things straight but tensions are still running high and things haven’t exactly ironed out the way he had hoped.
“There had been a kind of unspoken agreement between everyone to park whatever has been on each person’s mind, and solely concentrate on supporting the Queen ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral.
“The feeling inside the camp was that it wasn’t the time nor the place to go over things, especially at such an emotional time for everybody involved.”
Harry laid bare his rift with Charles during his and Meghan Markle’s controversial Oprah Winfrey interview.
He claimed that his father stopped taking his calls about Megxit and accused him of cutting him off financially.
Harry added that he felt “let down” by Charles.
While he did talk to Charles during his UK visit, a source said Harry is returning to California with “a lot of ground to make up”.
The insider said: “Harry didn’t expect everything to be completely back to normal but his feeling after seeing his family was there is a lot of ground to make up.
“Whether that is harder or easier to do on the other side of the world remains to be seen.
“There is a lot of distrust in the camp and everything is still very, very raw.”
Charles has now retreated to his official Welsh home to mourn the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh, it has been reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a series of explosive claims about the royals in their tell-all interview, which aired last month.
They accused an unnamed member of the Royal Family – not the Queen or Philip – of racism.
Harry opened up on his damaged relationship with his older brother Prince William.
And Meghan claimed William’s wife Kate made her cry after previous reports it was the other way round.
William and Harry were spotted chatting as they left St George’s Chapel on Saturday, sparking hopes they could make up.
But royal author Penny Junor said it will take more time for Harry to heal his rifts with his father and brother.
Ms Junor said about the brothers: “There is a lot to sort out here in terms of the relationship and a lot of anger on both sides to get released and talked through.
“I would be surprised if they managed to do that in this short time.
“My feeling is there is a lot to unravel here.
“Harry’s said some terrible things and Meghan threw Kate under a bus – so that will be so hard for William to get over and he’s protective of Kate, quite rightly he’s protecting his family.
“Calling someone in the family a racist, what a thing to do, how can somebody prove they’re not?”
