During his early years, the Duke of Sussex picked up the habit of switching off lights from his eco-conscious father. Harry spoke of how after he and Meghan set up a home together he noticed she didn’t share his desire to turn the lights out at every given chance. In a BBC documentary in celebration of Charles’ 70th birthday, which aired in November 2018, Harry said of his father: “He’s a stickler for turning lights off.

“And that’s now something that I’m obsessed with as well, which is insane because actually, my wife goes ‘Well, why turn the lights off? You know it’s dark’.

“I go ‘we only need one light, we don’t need like six’, and all of a sudden, it becomes a habit and those small habit changes he’s making, every single person can do.

“And I think that’s one of the key lessons certainly that I felt that he taught us.”

The documentary titled ‘Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70’ included rare insights from senior royals about the heir to the throne.

Harry spoke lovingly about his father and praised him for his strong work ethic but said he would like to see him take things down a notch.

He said: “He does need to slow down, this is a man who has dinner ridiculously late at night.

“And then goes to his desk later that night and will fall asleep on his notes to the point of where he’ll wake up with a piece of paper stuck to his face.

“The man never stops. I mean when we were kids there was bags and bags and bags of work that the office just sent to him.

“We could barely even get to his desk to say goodnight to him.”

The Duchess of Cornwall has said her husband was “driven by this passion to help people”.

The Prince of Wales’ relationship with his younger son has become strained in recent years.

In his bombshell interview which aired in March, Harry told Oprah Winfrey that his father stopped taking his calls after he and Meghan quit their roles in the Royal Family.

However, Harry’s fraught relationship with members of his family appears to be on the mend.

Since the Oprah interview, he has flown back to the UK on two occasions to reunite with family members.

In April he joined his father, brother and other relations as they took part in a procession behind Prince Philip’s coffin at his Windsor funeral.

And last week Harry and Prince William stood side by side as they unveiled a statue in honour of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace Gardens.

A body language expert said the brothers appeared to be a bit “rigid” but nevertheless put on a show of solidarity.

Judi James said: “Their smiles, when they emerged, were a little bit rigid, but they did emerge side by side.

“And I think what was more important was that their body language was very mirrored as they arrived – a sort of subliminal bonding.

“The mirroring would very much show their deeper bonds of love for one another.”

Ms James said the princes displayed “no real tension in their posture” when they walked into the Sunken Garden together and unveiled the artwork on what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday.

She added: “Harry fiddled with his wedding ring which is clearly a reference to seeing his family as a source of comfort under pressure.”
