It was announced last month that the Duke of Sussex will publish an “intimate and heartfelt memoir”. The Royal Family is reportedly bracing itself for further tensions with their family members over in California. Prince William and Prince Charles are both reported to be concerned about the book, and were described as “shaken” by the announcement.
Harry, in a statement with publishers Penguin Random House, said the memoir will be “accurate and wholly truthful”.
He said: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.
“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story—the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned—I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”
The book, however, is faced with enormous nervousness, likely due to the straight-talking approach shown by the prince in recent months.
Harry is expected to cover his upbringing, his military and Royal Family careers, and his newfound role as a husband and father.
The Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers told the Pod Save The Queen podcast that all members of the Firm will be affected by the memoir.
He said: “Nobody is going to come off unscathed here.
“Maybe this is some sort of therapy for Harry where he can unburden himself, but nobody in the Royal Family is going to come off unscathed.
“And that’s why there is going to be such a degree of nervousness about this book.”
The book is hanging over the Royal family “like a Sword of Damocles”, according to royal author Duncan Larcombe.
The term alludes to the threat of ever-present or imminent peril, hanging over those in positions of power.
Mr Myers noted Harry’s promise to uphold the values of the Queen and asked whether publishing this memoir is doing that.

He said: “On the one hand you could say he is being true to himself, he is using it as a form of therapy, doing it for charity.
On the other hand, is it potentially trashing your family?”
It was announced last week that the Duke will be donating $1.5million (£1.1million) to the Sentebale Charity.
All proceeds from the memoir will go to charity, with Sentebale the first of many recipients to be confirmed.
Mr Myers said royals were “none too pleased” at Harry’s decision to write a memoir, and several “voiced their surprise at such a move”.
A Buckingham Palace source recently told the MailOnline that any hope of reconciliation has now been destroyed.
The source said: “This is the no going back moment – the final nail in the coffin of the Royal Family’s relationship with Harry.
“The emotional turmoil as they wait over a year for publication is going to be torturous.”
The book, expected to be released in late 2022, threatens to overshadow the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
There will be a four-day Bank Holiday weekend from June 2 to June 5, and a series of other events.
The celebrations will mark the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.
Pod Save The Queen is released every Thursday on all major platforms.
