Harry and his wife Meghan Markle recently celebrated their three-year wedding anniversary and are expecting their second child this summer. With their relationships with the Royal Family fractious and the couple building new friendships in the US, some old friends allegedly feel like they have been left behind. However, one person who chose to leave Harry’s bubble was Cressida.
She wrote a cryptic message on her Instagram once which one royal expert has related to their split.
She wrote: “No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people ultimately tells it all.”
The actress dated Prince Harry from 2012 to 2014 and it is believed part of the reason for their split was her struggling to cope with such a spotlight on her life.
However, author Robert Lacey claimed in his book ‘Battle of Brothers’ that there was more to it than that.
He claimed Cressida thought Harry was “damaged” and “self-obsessed” and that he had a “neurosis” about the media.
He wrote: “Even so, Cressida Bonas, his last serious girlfriend before Meghan Markle, came to feel he was a damaged and self-obsessed young man.
“‘No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are,’ she posted enigmatically on her Instagram page, ‘how you treat people ultimately tells it all.’
“She complained to friends that Harry had a neurosis about the media.
“He’d rant and complain about paparazzi lurking where clearly there were none, she said.”
More recently, Prince Harry has opened up about his mental health struggles, including having to cope with intense media interest.
In his Apple TV+ mental health series with Oprah Winfrey, he talked about a challenging period of his life between the ages of 28 and 32.
He described these years as a “nightmare”, during which he suffered severe anxiety and panic attacks.
This age range overlaps when he was dating Cressida, which may explain the “neurosis”.
He told Oprah: “Before I even left the house I was sweating, I was in fight or flight mode.

Eventually, Harry went to therapy, the push to do so being something he variably credits to his brother Prince William and wife Meghan Markle.
Cressida and Harry remained friends after their split and she was even a guest at Harry’s wedding to Meghan in 2018.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now live across the Atlantic and live a life separate from the Royal Family.
Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke spoke to the Channel 5 documentary ‘Meghan and Harry: 3 Troubled Years’ about the similarities between Harry’s past break-ups and Megxit.
She said: “If you look back at Harry’s prior relationships, neither of those girls wanted to commit and now you’re wondering is that the exact same reason that Harry and Meghan have now left?
“Because of these exact reasons these two prior girlfriends did not want to marry into the Royal Family?”
