The Duke of Sussex has been quarantining at Frogmore Cottage since landing in the UK – the same residence that he loaned to Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank. Royal commentators Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand explained their close bond in Finding Freedom.

They said Harry and Eugenie had one of the “most natural connections.”

Mr Scobie and Ms Durand wrote: “Like Harry, Eugenie is loyal, honest and great fun.

“The two had many nights out together in London, sneaking into back entrances of clubs, such as Mahiki, where Jack once was manager, or Tonteria, where in one of the VIP cave areas they downed shots from Mexican skull-shaped glasses and a giant frozen margarita (with multiple straws).

“Eugenie also struggled to carve out her own identity growing up

“Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life.”

Princess Eugenie is thought to be a peacemaker between William and Harry.

They reunite on Saturday for Prince Philip’s funeral.

She has formed close friendships with both brothers since they were children.

Mr Scobie and Ms Durand wrote: “Not only did [Harry] trust her implicitly, but friends say that she gives great advice and has always been ‘beyond wise’ for her years.”

Harry has been allowed to attend the upcoming funeral on “compassionate grounds” – but will be required to quarantine for five days after the service.

Daniela Elser, Australian royal columnist, wrote on news.com.au that “the scene is now set for a family drama of such proportions it would have William Shakespeare reaching for a fresh quill”.

Ms Elser warned that the Royal Family’s every move will be watched by the gazing eyes of the world.

She said: “This Royal Family now faces the nightmare scenario of a sombre family occasion being subsumed by a tabloid frenzy, all body language experts and lip readers being brought in to scrutinise and parse every HRH’s blink and twitch.”

Ms Elser also highlighted how the reunion will be a “mournful, dignified moment, one marked with the requisite solemnity and reflection”.
