Prince Harry ‘would rather be a celebrity than a royal’

Nigel Farage on Prince Harry coming to coronation

Prince Harry would “rather be a celebrity than a royal” after stepping away but his family is his “greatest asset”, a former Royal butler has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals over three years ago before moving across the pond. Since leaving The Firm Meghan and Harry have made several swipes at the Royal Family resulting in some strained relationships.

Those relationships are set to be under a microscope at the King’s Coronation after Prince Harry’s attendance was confirmed.

Speaking on behalf of spingenie.com, ex-royal aide Paul Burrell said: “Harry’s abandoned the country to live in America, he’s almost American. He’s left the royal family to become a celebrity, he’d rather be a celebrity than a royal so he’s carved out a different role for himself.”

Speculation surrounding Meghan and Harry’s attendance circled for months before Buckingham Palace confirmed Harry would attend alone while Meghan stayed in the US with their children Archie and Lilibet.

Mr Burrell said they were “titillating the media” by keeping everyone guessing.

“Their only reason for surviving in the public eye is the fact they’re royal and they are still on the edges of being royal because of Harry’s connection with his family. That is their greatest asset,” he added.

The Coronation will be the first time Prince Harry has been seen with his father and brother Prince William since the publication of his memoir and Netflix docuseries.

Speaking on the relationship between Charles and Harry, Mr Burrell said he “feels sorry” for the King who now has “the weight fully on his shoulders”.

He said: “So now he’s witnessing what the Queen had all her life, this dilemma of splitting family and people because you can’t always do both and the Queen found herself in dilemmas sometimes between family and the people.

“When you’re a monarch you have to put the people first and this is going to be a hard lesson for the King, he’s not had this problem in the past because he hasn’t been Monarch but now the weight is fully on his shoulders.”

Prince Harry gave details of a physical altercation with Prince William in which he claimed he pushed him into a dog bowl.

The couple also claimed there were conversations with a senior royal surrounding the colour of their unborn son’s skin.

In a rare response, William to defended the royals by saying: “We are very much not a racist family.”
