Prince Harry to join A-listers at charity 9/11 fundraising event

Prince Harry is heading to London on the 18th anniversary of the devastating September 11 terror attacks in the US. The Duke of Sussex has been confirmed among the guests of the BGC Charity Day 2019, an event organised by global brokerage and financial technology company BGC. He will attend as the ambassador of Invictus Games, the annual multi-sport event he created and one of the charities who will receive the revenues raised on the day.

Other charity ambassadors attending include Tinie Tempah, Common, Tim Peake, Alan Carr, Harry Kane, Mauricio Pochettino, Eion Morgan, Frank Bruno, David Haye, Gabby Logan and Jamie Redknapp.

The BGC event attended by Harry will take place at the trading floor at BGC Partners in Canary Wharf, London.

Shaun D. Lynn, President of BGC Partners, said the charitable event is taking place on September 11 to remember BGC’s 658 colleagues and the 61 Eurobrokers employees who died in the terror attacks.

He continued: “September 11th remains a day very close to our hearts and I am incredibly proud to be hosting our 15th Charity Day, which turns such a historic anniversary into an uplifting day for all involved.

“We have now raised over $150 million globally, an outstanding achievement, which would not be possible without the incredible support of our clients, staff and the charities involved each year.

“I am looking forward to another day raising money for such worthwhile causes, and making this year’s Charity Day the best yet.”

JUST IN: Meghan Markle ‘not afraid to call shots’ in marriage with Harry

A total of 2,996 people, excluding the 19 Al-Qaeda hijackers, died during the September 11, 2001 attacks against the New York’s World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.

BGC will also hold tribute events in New York, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, São Paulo and Sydney.

The announcement of Prince Harry’s participation to the BGC event comes amid harsh criticism against the royal.

Today the Duke is in Amsterdam, where he launched a new eco-travel project aiming to curb the impact humans and tourists have on the environment.

However, this initiative, which has been two years in the making, has been overshadowed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s use of private jets in August.

Within 11 days, the royals have travelled with their son Archie Harrison using private jets four times to head to Ibiza and Nice.

Following a passionate speech about his latest project, called Travalyst, Prince Harry was quizzed about his personal travel habits by reporters attending the launch.

Asked about his decision to use private jets to go on holidays with Meghan and Archie, Harry said he uses commercial flights 90 percent of the time but does make other arrangements at times to “ensure that my family are safe” and that he has always offset his CO2 impact.

Prince Harry and Meghan have been vocal within the past months about the impact humans are having on the environment.

For the whole month of July, the pair dedicated their attention to organisations trying to do good to the environment by shining a light on them through their official Instagram account, sussexroyal.

And in the British Vogue issue of September, co-edited by Meghan, Prince Harry widely spoke about the worries he has for the future of his son Archie and planet earth.

The Duke of Sussex went as far as revealing he isn’t planning on having more than two children to preserve nature’s resources – despite his brother Prince William having three children.
