Prince Harry: Expert on ‘omission’ from Archie’s birth certificate

Prince Harry’s royal title was initially left off his son Archie’s birth certificate in a “bigger omission” than Meghan Markle’s name change, according to royal commentators. This discovery comes after The Sun sparked a row over why the Duchess of Sussex had her name changed on the birth certificate. Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie noted that the Duke appeared to have been subject to a change that was a much “bigger deal”.

According to reports, Archie’s birth certificate was updated for both Meghan and Harry one month after his birth in June 2019.

Meghan’s was changed from ‘Rachel Meghan HRH The Duchess of Sussex’ to ‘HRH The Duchess of Sussex’.

For Harry, ‘Prince’ was added before his name.

Ms Bowie told listeners: “I think it’s a bigger deal that Prince was omitted from Harry’s name.”

She continued: “That actually is part of his actual title.

“Why would they leave that out?

“That’s a bigger omission than anyone’s willing to talk about.

“Of course, they’re going to endlessly pick apart the stuff about Meghan.”

Diana, Princess of Wales, preferred to have only her title on Prince William and Harry’s birth certificates.

In contrast, Kate has her full name on all three of her children’s birth certificates.

According to Debrett’s etiquette guide, Meghan’s change may have actually been an attempt to fix a grammatical mistake.

‘Rachel Meghan’ is not part of her official title, and, at the time, she should have been addressed as ‘HRH The Duchess of Sussex’.

Now, since she and Harry stepped back from their senior roles, she goes by ‘Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex’.

Meghan’s spokesperson denied the claim that the edit was to make a point, issuing a statement that said: “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by the palace, as confirmed by documents from senior palace officials.

“This was not requested by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex nor by the Duke of Sussex. To see this UK tabloid and their carnival of so-called ‘experts’ chose to deceptively whip this into a calculated family ‘snub’ and suggest that she would oddly want to be nameless on her child’s birth certificate, or any other legal document, would be laughable were it not offensive.

“There’s a lot going on in the world; let’s focus on that instead of creating clickbait.”
