Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex launched the website for the Archewell foundation. Their charitable foundation’s website was launched on Wednesday after the foundation was first announced in April. But could one move by the Queen have prevented the royal exit in the first place?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched a new website for the Archewell foundation last week.

The website features a neutral taupe background with definitions for the words Arche and Well featured.

The website reads: “Arche…Greek word meaning ‘source of action’.

“Well… a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep.”

The couple has been living in California since March having officially left their senior roles in the Royal Family at the end of March.

The couple revealed their plans to launch Archwell earlier this year.

At the time, in a statement, they said: “Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’ – the Greek word meaning ‘source of action’.

“We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.

“To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.

“Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.

“We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”

The Royal Family were reportedly deeply upset, disappointed and angry by the Sussexes departure.

The Queen was reportedly “deeply upset” at their decision, while Prince Charles and Prince William were said to be “incandescent with rage”.

After the bombshell announcement dropped, a senior source told The Sun: “Their statement was not cleared with anyone. It breaks all protocol. This is a declaration of war on the family.

“There is fury over how they’ve done this without any thought for the implications for the institution.

“The Queen is deeply upset. The Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge are incandescent with rage.

“Courtiers can’t believe it. There are so many unanswered questions but they’ve just up and done it without a thought for anyone else.

“The plan was there to discuss it and work out a way that works for everyone in the family.”

The couple departed to begin a 12-month trial period after which either side can make changes to the agreement made or the couple can choose to return to royal life.

On Christmas Day last year, the Queen delivered a speech about the “bumpy year” her family had undergone.

Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot she did not feature a photograph of the Sussex family and her new great-grandson, born earlier that year.

However, she did proudly display pictures of the Cambridge family, Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Philip and her father King George VI.

But along with no photograph, fans have noted the Queen made no specific mention of Harry or Meghan.

Royal Author Robert Lacey claimed the Queen’s omission created “suspicion” with the rest of the Royal Family.

Mr Lacey told the Mirror’s Pod Save the Queen podcast: “The picture of the Sussexes that had been on the royal desk the year before had vanished.

“There was no mention in the Queen’s broadcast of the word ‘Sussex’.

“She did mention and welcome her eighth great-grandchild, but she didn’t say the word, Archie.

“Clearly there was suspicion building up inside the family and inside the palaces about what this project that Sussex Royal, that Harry and Meghan were launching, was all about.”

A new biography about the couple written by royal experts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand called Finding Freedom claims Harry and Meghan felt sidelined by other royals, and in particular the Queen.

They wrote: “Harry felt as though he and Meghan had long been sidelined by the institution and were not a fundamental part of its future.

“One didn’t have to look further than the family photos displayed during the Queen’s Speech on Christmas Day.

“In the Green Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace, where the Queen delivered her address, viewers glimpsed photos of the Cambridges and their children, Charles and Camilla, Prince Philip and a black and white image of the sovereign’s father, King George VI.

“Noticeably absent was a photo of Harry, Meghan and their new baby, Archie.

“Palace sources insisted that the photos were chosen to represent the direct line of succession, but for Harry and Meghan, it was yet another sign that they needed to consider their own path.”
