Prince Harry opens up on overwhelming ‘feelings of guilt’ over baby Archie during lockdown

Prince Harry made the candid confession during a special video call with parents and carers in the UK. Harry spoke to the parents as a long-standing patron of WellChild, which provides care for seriously ill children and young people in the UK. During the conversation, the Duke of Sussex admitted he repeatedly questions his feelings of guilt “for having so much family time”.

It was one of the first times Harry has spoken since his move to Los Angeles, California from Vancouver, Canada.

The Duke of Sussex made the 30-minute virtual call over the Easter Weekend.

The 35-year-old dad told the parents that while the coronavirus pandemic was unsettling, there were many positives to look forward to.

Harry spoke about his relationship with his son Archie, who turns one year old in May.

He explained: “There’s a hell of a lot of positives that are happening at the same time and being able to have family time.

“So much family time — that you almost think, ‘Do I feel guilty for having so much family time?’

“You’ve got to celebrate those moments where you are just on the floor rolling around in hysterics.

“Inevitably, half an hour later, maybe a day later, there’s going to be something that you have to deal with and there’s no way you can run away from it.”

Harry, who has served as a patron of WellChild for more than a decade, told the people he called: “It’s very nice to see the familiar faces on here.”

He went on to praise the families, calling them “super-parents” for their composure under pressure.

When asked how he was doing, Harry said: “Not too bad. I think it’s certainly strange times.”

He continued: “Everyone is experiencing the same thing in a very unique way. But the longer this goes on for, I imagine the harder it is for each and every one of you.

“It’s all about morale. If morale is up, if you wake up in the morning and go, ‘Right, new day, got my whole family here, what are we going to do?’

“Of course, there’s that fear of what might happen, but there’s so much that’s out of our control and all of the sudden we’ve realized how small we are in the grand scheme of things.”

Speaking about Archie, Harry joked “Having one kid at 11-months-old is enough!”
