Prince Harry ‘not as brave’ as he seems over Charles meeting – author

Prince Harry arrives at the High Court in London

The Duke of Sussex is not “as brave as he makes out he is”, a royal author has claimed. Prince Harry’s return to the UK would have coincided with the beginning of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s tour to France, had it not been cancelled due to the ongoing protests across the country against a proposed pension reform.

King Charles saw his diary cleared out of the first leg of his tour, which is instead beginning today with Their Majesties’ arrival in Germany, something which left royal watchers to wonder whether the monarch would have time to meet his second son in person.

However, royal commentator Ingrid Seward said it is likely the sovereign’s time was immediately occupied by other engagements.

And, she added, she doesn’t think the Duke of Sussex sought to book a meeting with his “irate” father.

She told the Mirror: “Any ordinary father would expect to see their son when he paid a rare visit to the UK from abroad.

“But Charles is not an ordinary father. He is King and as such has appointments every 20 minutes of his day. In between, he has letters to sign, state documents to read and meetings to attend.

“When the state visit to France was cancelled his diary was immediately filled with urgent pending issues.”

The commentator added being King isn’t “a part-time post”, before claiming it is unlikely the head of state wants a “confrontation” with his second son after he attacked the Firm and its members in his memoir, Spare.

She continued: “Charles and Camilla were due to be out of the country when he arrived in the UK. Harry would have never envisaged something as politically sensitive as a state visit being postponed.

“Harry is not quite as brave as he makes out he is. However much noise he might have made about wanting a discussion, being ushered into Clarence House to meet with an irate and disappointed father was almost certainly not on his agenda.”

Ms Seward referred to Prince Harry’s public request for a meeting with key members of the Royal Family to discuss his and the Duchess of Sussex’s row with the Firm.

The Duke mentioned his desire to iron out his differences with his UK relatives in a number of interviews released in January, when he was promoting his book.

Speaking with US journalist Anderson Cooper on CBS’s 60 Minutes, Harry said, when asked if the rift with his family can be healed: “The ball is very much in their court, but, you know, Meghan and I have continued to say that we will openly apologise for anything that we did wrong, but every time we ask that question, no one’s telling us the specifics or anything.

“There needs to be a constructive conversation, one that can happen in private that doesn’t get leaked.”

Speaking to the Telegraph’s Bryony Gordon, Harry also addressed directly the Firm saying: “Because you know what you did, and I now know why you did it. And you’ve been caught out, so just come clean and then we could all move on.”

Mr Seward’s comment comes after it was claimed the Duke of Sussex had informed his father of his trip to the UK to attend the preliminary hearing but he was told Charles was “busy”.

On Monday, it was claimed both King Charles and Prince William were neither in London nor in Windsor, with the Prince of Wales believed to be spending privately half-term with his children and wife.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have left the UK today for their first tour of Germany in their new roles.
