Prince Harry latest video ‘heartbreaking’ as it ‘shows the old Harry’, expert claims

Prince Harry surprises WellChild award winners on Zoom call

Prince Harry, 36, continues to honour his royal patronages and charity links despite having stepped down as a senior royal in March. This week the Duke delighted a group of children by making a surprise appearance on a WellChild charity Awards video call.

Prince Harry is patron of WellChild, a UK charity which gives children and young people with serious illness the best chance to thrive – at home with their families.

The charity tweeted about Harry’s special appearance on Friday and shared a clip on the emotional call.

The tweet read: “The Duke of Sussex surprised some of our previous WellChild Award winners on a recent zoom call.

“See the moment for yourself & hear their thoughts on why the #WellChildAwards, in association with @GSK, are so important.”

A second tweet about the special engagement read: “On the video call The Duke of Sussex told Maddison, Katie, Marni and Evie that “the children and young people of WellChild are at the very heart of this charity because you guys just know who you are and don’t pretend to be anybody else.”

Prince Harry spoke to the children from his Montecito home in California and shared his excitement at reconnecting with them all.

Body language expert and author Judi James analysed the moving video for Express.co.uk and shared her findings.

According to the expert Harry seemed to be back to his “old self” during the engagement.

Judi told Express.co.uk: This is a heart-breaking watch, not just because of the bravery and utter resilience of the young people on the conference screen, but because it also allows us to see a reminder of the old Harry before he moved on to his role as an authoritative global guru.”

Judi claimed Harry’s “quiet” arrival on the call and “modest” demeanour stood out from his recent talks.

The expert said: “Harry arrives quietly and without drama here, sitting down with a frown of modest concentration and a part-opened mouth as he connects with the faces he has followed over the years.”

According to Judi, the Duke used “self-diminishing” gestures to put his audience at ease.

She said: “He self-diminishes by leaning forward into the camera with his arms pulled into his torso, making him appear genuinely humbled by the faces he’s watching on screen.”

Judi claimed Harry’s lack of “show-boating” in the new clip is a stark change from the “guru-like” persona he has more recently adopted.

She said: “There is no show-boating or posturing from the prince here, he appears almost overwhelmed by emotion to be seeing these familiar faces.”

She added: “His smile is lopsided, pulled up only one side of his face to suggest mixed emotions, and he looks genuinely impressed but the wonderfully upbeat characters on-screen before him.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to mark their first Christmas in the USA since stepping down as senior royals.

The couple were expected back in the UK over the summer but have been stopped from returning by the coronavirus pandemic.

Their son Archie Harrison has not been in Britain since last November.
