Prince Harry given written apology after major royal protocol breach during Meghan’s visit

Prince Harry was addressed a handwritten apology by 16-year-old Aker Okoye, the pupil at Robert Clack Upper School who happily hugged Meghan and complimented the Duchess of Sussex on her look during her surprise visit at the east London school. In his apology, Aker revealed he was left “overwhelmed and shocked” to see Meghan appearing on the premises of his school. In his letter, shared with The Sun, the student said: “Dear Harry and Meghan. Harry, hope you don’t mind me writing this letter.

“I hope you didn’t mind me cuddling your wife.

“I was just overwhelmed and shocked to see her arrive at my school.

“It was a pleasure to hear her speech and to speak in front of her as well.

“She is truly inspirational.”

In his letter, Aker also recalled Prince Harry paid a visit to Dagenham last year, but the pair didn’t have the chance to meet.

The teenager continued: “I nearly met you (Harry) last year when you came to East London to open the Future Youth Zone but I was away with the school.

“I hope to meet you one day.

“Good luck for the future.

“With kind regards, Aker.”

The cheeky teenager will post the letter to Buckingham Palace, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have a working office until March 31.

Aker, who admitted he was “starstruck” after seeing Meghan, explained the candid reason why he penned this letter for Prince Harry.

The teenager told The Sun: “I’ve written the letter to make sure Harry doesn’t have a problem with it and to say sorry really and that I hope he didn’t mind.

“Meghan didn’t – she found it funny and I’m sure Harry will as well.

“When she asked which brave young man wanted to do a talk I jumped at the chance.

“I leapt up there. I thought it would be proper protocol to give her a cuddle.

“It’s all a blur. The whole crowd erupted.”

Meghan visited Robert Clack Upper School last week to meet Geraldine Dear, one of the women who went on a strike in 1968 at a Dagenham factory to demand equal wages, and “the town’s next generation of female role models”, as later revealed in an Instagram post published on the Sussex Royal account to mark International Women’s Day.

During her unscheduled visit, Meghan took the centre stage during a school assembly and asked for a “brave young man” to join her speak about why March 8 is so important.

Aker confessed he couldn’t help himself but volunteer to have the chance to “speak in front of someone so famous and important.”

He continued: “I called her beautiful because it was an initial reaction.

“It was just what I thought. I have no idea why I said ‘innit’ – it just came out.

“It was great. It was the best day of my life so far. I’ll never forget it.

“I’ve had so many messages from mates.

“They’re really pleased for me.

“To speak after someone like her was just a really great experience.”

While Aker’s decision to breach the royal protocol and hug Meghan grabbed the attention of many, the Sussexes wanted to make sure the boy was also acknowledged for the wise words he said to mark International Women’s Day and what role can men play on March 8.

On their Instagram account, Aker’s couple published the speech in full, saying: “The Duchess asked a young student to come on stage and share his perspective on the importance of the day, and whilst much attention has been focused on his initial comment, what he shared beyond that was compelling and true.”

In his speech, Aker said that International Women’s Day is, for him, a “reminder that women can do it all, and did it all.”
