The Duke of Sussex was expected to appear alongside his brother, Prince William, for a statue unveiling of Diana in Kensington Palace on July 1. The exhibition was planned by Harry and William several years ago to mark what would have been their late mother’s 60th birthday.
Royal author Phil Dampier says there is “serious doubt” as to whether Harry will fly across the Atlantic for the event.
Harry and William briefly reunited at the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip last month and were pictured speaking cordially behind their face masks.
The meeting was the first since Harry addressed the breakdown of his relationship with William during the Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Mr Dampier described the conversation outside St George’s Chapel as “clearly very strained and only an opening move”.
He told The Sun: “I personally don’t think Meghan will return to the UK.
“And there must now be a serious doubt as to whether Harry will come over for the unveiling of a statue for Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday in July.”
Royal author Omid Scobie has also addressed Harry and William’s brief chat at the funeral and said it “broke the ice”.
But, he added: “Outstanding issues have not been addressed at any great length.
“The family simply put their issues to one side to focus on what mattered.”
Speaking to Oprah in March, Prince Harry admitted he and his older brother are on “different paths” and insisted their relationship is “space”.
Meghan Markle also addressed her relationship with Kate and claimed the Duchess of Cambridge made her cry during the infamous bridesmaid’s dress fitting in 2018.
Mr Dampier added: “The relationship between the so-called former ‘Fab Four’- Harry, Meghan, William and Kate – is now so broken and delicate that everyone is looking for the slightest signs it is getting better… or worse.
“The discussions after Prince Philip’s funeral were a start, but were clearly very strained and only an opening move.
“Harry and Meghan now have all they want to make them happy if they are going to be.
“A son, a daughter on the way, their freedom from the Royal Family and the means to make money and get involved in cases which interest them.”
