Australian Today host Karl Stefanovic made a dig at the Duke of Sussex on the breakfast show earlier this week when his co-host Allison Langdon mentioned Prince Harry’s name on air. While she was introducing the show’s next guest, Global Citizen founder Hugh Evans, she mentioned he had worked with Harry. She said: “Our next guest is a Melbourne man with the likes of Lady Gaga, Hugh Jackman and Prince Harry all on speed dial.”

Mr Stefanovic then interrupted her with a pained look on his face as he said: “Prince Harry?”

He then started laughing.

Ms Langdon replied: “Well, once upon a time, you would have liked Prince Harry on speed dial!”

Mr Stefanovic then appeared to pull himself together before making another wry comment as he said: “Yes, I know, I know… I love him.”

He has made other harsh comments about Harry in the past, particularly about his upcoming memoir.

Last month, Mr Stefanovic discussed the book with Today’s LA correspondent Sam Rubin.

He asked: “Is it really going to be his story or Meghan Markle’s?”

He suggested Harry was writing the memoir but using the words of his wife.

However, Mr Rubin dismissed the remark by highlighting Meghan would be more likely to write a multimillion-dollar book of her own rather than go through Harry.

He said: “That’s an interesting question because we don’t want to preclude her own book deal, so I suspect it will be more of his story and maybe how they felt.”

Harry recently announced he will be releasing an “accurate and wholly truthful” account of his life so far next year.

The memoir is set to include the break-up of his parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage, as well as the period of Diana’s death in 1997 and its aftermath. Harry’s relationship with stepmother Camilla and past girlfriends are also likely to form part of the book.

Harry said in a statement about his book: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

The prince has also hit the headlines around the world this year as he and Meghan shared in shocking detail their reasons for quitting the Royal Family last year.

During their Oprah interview in March, Harry also spoke about feeling “trapped” within the Firm.

He said: “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.”

He also told Oprah that he felt let down by his father for cutting him off financially.

Harry then added that “there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened” between them, while Meghan claimed she did not receive support from the monarchy when she felt suicidal as a royal.

Buckingham Palace responded: “Recollections may vary.”
