Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were celebrated by the charity Population Matters for “choosing not to have any more than two children”. The environmental and humanitarian prize rewards the couple for making the “enlightened decision” to limit their family size. However, broadcaster and columnist Dawn Neesom was scathing in her reaction to the award, as she claimed it was “more hypocrisy from the king and queen of hypocrisy”.

TalkRADIO host Cristo joked to Ms Neewsom: “We should take a moment to acknowledge the great sacrifice Harry and Meghan have taken, for which they are now being awarded.

“Congratulations to Harry and Meghan for winning this humanitarian award for choosing not to have any more than two children.

“It has absolutely nothing to do with Meghan being 39 years old, of course.”

Ms Neesom joked: “God bless them for thinking about us like that and saving the world.”

She added: “I wonder how William and Kate, who have three children, will feel about that.

“They are destroying the planet with their kids!

“How Harry has the bare-faced cheek to fly backwards and forwards between the US and UK, taking gas-guzzling cars when he lands on either side and then he can say ‘don’t worry, I’m just having two kids’.”

The couple will receive £500 as part of the award, which they can donate to a charity of their choice.

Prince Harry: US ‘cringe at airing dirty laundry’ says Cohen

Back in 2019, Harry told British Vogue that he and Meghan were only planning “two maximum” to reduce their impact on the environment.

Their son Archie was born in 2019, followed by Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana last month.

Despite the award, Harry has been criticised in the past for using private jets to travel to royal engagements and go on holiday.

A Population Matters charity spokesperson said: “Having a smaller family reduces our impact on the Earth, and provides a better chance for all our children, their children and future generations to flourish on a healthy planet.

“We commend the duke and duchess for taking this enlightened decision, and for affirming that a smaller family is also a happy family.”

Nine other recipients were also honoured with the prizes in the run-up to the UN’s World Population Day tomorrow.

Harry recently returned to the UK from Los Angeles for a brief visit to unveil a statue of his late mother alongside his brother Prince William.
