Royal commentators Sarah Vine and Richard Eden reflected on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and the image they are attempting to project to the world. While speaking on Palace Confidential with host Jo Elvin, the pair agreed they were struggling to be successful to convince people they were a normal couple. Ms Vine highlighted that Meghan’s latest project of 40×40 may be well-meaning but came across as overly scripted and unnatural as she was speaking from her lavish home.

Mr Eden added the pair appeared to be playing on the image of “good cop and bad cop” which he found rather interesting.

Ms Elvin asked: “What did you make of that little scene?

Ms Vine replied: “Again it is this whole sort of thing of ‘oh me and Harry are just fun normal people having a fun normal time’ in our £11m mansion.

“It is the same thing of what Prince Harry did with James Corden on the bus.

“It is this idea of trying to project this image of jovial normality, it just doesn’t stick for me.”

Mr Eden also argued the pair are often painted as “good cop and bad cop”.

He noted that their image, interpreted by the public was regularly changing.

He said: “I think it is interesting that it is always Harry.

Meghan Markle: 40×40 project 'patronising' says Neesom

“We have this developing narrative of good cop and bad cop.

“We have Meghan making this Netflix programme, this feminist programme to help women, now she is helping women again with this initiative.

“But oh Harry? He is the one who complains about his family in a book and then is being the clown juggling outside her window.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have most recently faced a mixed response from the public over their latest announcements.

Meghan’s 40×40 project that she announced on her birthday has seen some fans recoiling at the idea of celebrities mentoring women and dubbed it patronising while others have praised the Duchess for her commitment to important women causes.

Prince Harry’s latest backlash has come after it was announced the Duke was planning to right a memoir on his life.

Prince Harry has remained tight-lipped on the details of the book but it is expected to be published sometime in 2022.
