Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face ‘tension’ and ‘resentment’ this Christmas

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be in for a difficult Christmas this year as they clash over how to spend the holidays, a relationship expert has claimed.

The gloomy prediction comes more than three years after the couple stepped down as working royals and relocated to California.

The momentous decision to move continents has resulted in Harry spending the last three Christmas periods stateside and away from his family.

After a fractious few years in which relations have soured between the Sussexes and the royals, Harry may harbour a deep desire to return home for the holidays, according to Louella Alderson.

Harry may also want to get Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet up to speed on the UK’s traditions and customs at a time when they are most cherished.

This sets the stage for a difficult conversation between Harry and his American spouse.

Alderson said “It’s understandable that there may be some tension between Harry and Meghan over their Christmas plans.

“They have spent the past three Christmases away from Britain, so it’s possible that Harry may feel a sense of nostalgia and want to return to his home country for the holiday.”

She continued: “It would be natural for him to want to show his children the traditions and customs of his country and his upbringing as they have predominantly grown up in America their whole life.

“Even though Harry is not close with the Royal Family at the moment, he still has old friends in the UK which could explain his desire to spend Christmas there.

“On the other hand, Meghan may feel more comfortable celebrating Christmas in the United States again with her mother and extended family, especially given her negative experiences with the British press and the Royal Family.”

Alderson added that Meghan needs to be mindful of compromise: if the Duchess chooses to spend Christmas outside of the UK, she should be open to spending future holidays in the country for Harry.

She told the Mirror: “Meghan’s feelings and anger need to be taken into consideration as it could be a challenging time for her and she could feel like Christmas is not the right time to confront any hurt feelings.

“Harry has given up a lot for Meghan and has appeared to put Meghan’s needs and desires above his own at times, so it’s understandable that he may feel a sense of resentment if she is not willing to do the same for him.

“If they don’t spend Christmas in the UK this year, then Meghan should be open to the possibility of spending future holidays in the UK.”

The Duchess of Sussex has not travelled to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
