Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William’s oldest son Prince George recently celebrated his sixth birthday. The Cambridge clan are fans of family holidays and flew together to Mustique for George’s birthday last year. As heir to the throne, George should stick to this royal protocol, but so far his parents have made an exception for the young prince.

Prince George is third in line to ascend the British throne after his grandfather Prince Charles and dad Prince William.

Royal protocol dictates that no two royal heirs should take the same flight in case their is a fatal accident.

The morbid custom is in place to protect royal lineage, but it is one the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have bent for Prince George so far.

Prince William was granted permission from the Queen to fly together with George when he was just nine-months-old.

Prince George has travelled on planes with his parents to New Zealand, Canada and of course Mustique in the past.

However, he stuck to royal protocol in 2014 when The Duke and Duchess travelled to New York alone, leaving George at home with his nanny.

The royal protocol stems from an era when commercial air travel was relatively new and deemed unsafe.

While Prince George is still young his parents will continue to bend the protocol for him.

However, George’s days of flying with dad William are expected to end when he turns twelve.

Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are not restricted by the same unofficial rule and are allowed to travel with William throughout their lives.

The Cambridge family are expected to fly off to the Carribean for some sun this summer.

When will Prince George become King?

Prince Charles will succeed the throne when his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

When Prince Charles passes, or if he chooses to abdicate then the throne will pass to Prince William.

On Prince William’s death, his oldest son Prince George will become king.

Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history and show no sign of stepping down.

Her Majesty has been on the throne for 66 years and according to Palace sources she has said she will never abdicate.
