Prince George listen to THIS football anthem every morning Prince William reveals

George, six, has sung along to the famous “footballs coming home” tune every morning since the 2018 World Cup in Russia and is yet to get tired of the lyrics. The 1996 hit, performed by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, reached the top of the UK singles charts again in July 2018, following England’s successful run to the World Cup semi-finals. The Duke of Cambridge shared the news to Skinner when the pair met at the Royal Variety Performance last year.

The Duke told the comedian: “I listen to your song every morning.

“Honestly, George plays it every morning ever since the World Cup.

“I thought it would fade away but it hasn’t. He still plays it every day.”

England agonisingly missed out on their first World Cup final appearance since 1966, following a 2-1 defeat after extra time to Croatia in the semi-finals.

The young Prince showed off his love for football at his sixth birthday in July, when the royals released a picture of George in his England shirt.

The football anthem written by Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds with Baddiel and Skinner, rose to prominence in 1996, when England hosted the UEFA European Championships on home soil.

The Anthem made chart history 22 years after its release in 2018, after it soared to the top of the charts for a record 4th different occasion.

Three Lions had two one-week stints in 1996 at number one, a three-week spell in 1998 and again in 2018.

To date the anthem has sold over 1.6 million copies since its release.

During their encounter at the London Palladium, Skinner could not resist a jibe at the Duke for his allegiance to Aston Villa – a bitter rival or Skinner’s beloved West Bromwich Albion.

As the pair shook hands, Skinner joked: “I think you’re the first Aston Villa fan I’ve ever shaken hands with.”

In a royal documentary aired last month, William also revealed he has been unable to convince George to support The Villa and said he can support anyone except Chelsea.

Even a trip to an Aston Villa Premier League game was unable to convince the third-in-line to the throne to support struggling Villa.

William, Kate and George were in the stands at Carrow Road in October to watch Norwich City beat Aston Villa 2-1.

In December the Duke appeared on the BBCs A Berry Royal Christmas, alongside his wife Kate and former Great British Bake Off judge, Mary Berry.

William said: “I tried not to be too biased, I said ‘you can support anyone but Chelsea’. So naturally, he supports Chelsea.”
