Prince George’s royal status hasn’t attracted any negativity towards the seven-year-old among his friends and at school, royal expert Katie Nicholl said. While he appears to be slightly shier compared to his brother Prince Louis and sister Princess Charlotte, Prince George has managed to charm his little friends and schoolmates, the royal commentator said.
She told OK! magazine: “From what I’m told, he doesn’t get teased at school.
“He’s actually very popular.
“Although he’s more introvert compared to his siblings, he’s an extremely kind little boy and has a gentle nature.”
One passion Prince George shares with his father Prince William is believed to have made him popular among his peers in school.
The expert continued: “He’s also very impressive on the football pitch and before lockdown he was playing in an outside team regularly.
“The fact that he’s sporty and is a talented footballer has certainly boosted his popularity.”
Prince William, a keen Aston Villa fan as well as the President of the Football Association, recently joked about Prince George becoming a football player.
The Duke of Cambridge took part in a special episode of The Peter Crouch Podcast in which he spoke about his campaign to normalise speaking about mental health among men as well as his own love for football.
Mr Crouch asked William wether he thought Prince George could one day become Villa’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Joking, the second in line to the throne replied: “Definitely, I reckon he could.
“I reckon he could be their all-time leading goal scorer.
“I can see no reason why not. It would be brilliant.”
Speaking about his favourite club’s values, William added: “I do like the values and the ethos of the club.
“I want them to look after the players and set a good example to the young fans.
“I want our children, when they go the match, to come away loving what they’ve seen, enjoying it, and seeing their role models behave in a way that we’d all want them to.”
Prince George, who turned seven on July 22, has been attending Thomas’s Battersea school since he was five.
While they aren’t bothered by it, George’s schoolmates are aware of his royal status, Ms Nicholl said.
She added: “There was quite a big fuss about George’s arrival at the school.
“Bulletproof glass was installed and the presence of protection officers sets him apart from his peers.
“His classmates were clearly very aware there was something different about him from the start.
“They know he’s a prince and they call him ‘PG’, which is short for Prince George.”
Prince George himself is believed to have been gradually introduced to the concept of kingship and his future role.
The royal expert added: “I think George understands, like William did from a very early age, that he’s different from his younger brother and sister and that he’ll have a different future.
“After all, he gets taken away to do photoshoots with Her Majesty the Queen, so he must notice he’s been singled out.
“But I don’t think William and Kate have made a big thing of saying to George, ‘One day you will be King.’
“They want to protect him from that moment, so it’s an idea that’s being introduced to him gradually.
“The true enormity of what his life will one day be isn’t something he’s fully aware of yet.”
