Prince George football celebration: Real reason Prince William told George to calm down

Prince George recently emerged as an Aston Villa supporter, as he attended last weekend’s match against Norwich. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge escorted the young Prince for an off-duty day of fun at the Saturday match, which saw Aston Villa reign 5-1 over Norwich City. While there, however, Prince William seemingly reprimanded George as he celebrated one of the Birmingham side’s goals.

Prince William brought George to his first football game this weekend, accompanied by Kate Middleton and their daughter Princess Charlotte.

The family were sat in the Carrow Road stadium, alongside home fans in the south side stand.

The storming performance from Aston Villa naturally excited the six-year-old prince, who celebrated with glee at each goal.

His enthusiasm led Prince William to tell him to calm down, however, as he was likely mindful of the disappointed Norwich City fans surrounding them.

According to Prince William, George has picked his football allegiances much earlier than himself.

Speaking in 2015, William said he only attended his first game featuring the team when he was 18-years old.

He told the BBC his first experience watching Aston Villa was “fantastic”.

He said: “A long time ago at school, I got into football big time.”

“I was looking around for clubs.”

“All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run of the mill teams.

“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.

“Aston Villa’s always had a great history.”

“I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000.

“Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea.

“It was fantastic, I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time

“It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”

During the game, the Cambridge family was sat at the back row directly behind fans in the main stadium, but they moved after the first half.

One Norwich City fan told the William_Catherine82 Instagram fan account they moved to private boxes in the stadium for half-time celebrations.

They returned to their seats once again in the second half, where William was also spotted revelling in Aston Villa’s victory.

The family left five minutes before the end of play, likely to avoid large crowds.
