The law of male primogeniture, which still exists in Britain, means that hereditary peerages only pass down the male line of the family, leaving Lilibet unable to inherit her father’s dukedom. Constitutional expert Iain MacMarthanne told Express.co.uk: “Archie will on the death of his father become Duke of Sussex.
“Presently he is at liberty by convention to be called Earl of Dumbarton being his fathers senior subsidiary titles”
He added: “At that moment, by law, Archie will become, whether he chooses to be or not, HRH Prince Archie of Sussex for life.
“At his death, the HRH dies too, he can pass on to any male heir the title Duke of Sussex, but not HRH or Prince. This comes from George V’s letters patent of 1917 regulating the HRH.”
Meanwhile, as heir to the throne, Prince George will automatically become the Duke of Cornwall when William becomes king.
His sister Princess Charlotte, however, is unlikely to inherit a Duchess title unless she is granted one by the presiding monarch upon her marriage.
Unless British law is changed to allow women to inherit hereditary titles then they will bypass both Lilibet and Princess Charlotte on the basis of their gender.

Harry and Meghan could spend Christmas in the UK to check on the Queen
Speculation Harry and Meghan could opt for a UK Christmas is growing after the Queen recently cancelled a trip to Northern Ireland and spent a night in hospital as a precautionary measure.
Despite some of the drama to have engulfed the couple since they stepped back from royal duties last year, Prince Harry is very close with his grandmother, with the Queen insisting that the Sussexes remain much-loved members of her family.
Harry and Meghan, who moved to LA in March 2020, also welcomed their daughter Lillibet to the world earlier this year.
Since their move, Meghan has not yet returned to the UK.
Harry has returned twice – once for Prince Philip’s funeral and once for the unveiling of a statue of his mother Princess Diana.
Lillibet, who was born in Santa Barbara last June and named after the Queen, has never visited.

The royal family’s estate is still as huge as ever
The Royal Family is not currently the richest in the UK but has considerable wealth.

Much of her wealth comes from property ownership, and she has an impressive portfolio.
The Crown Estate splits properties under its urban ownership between the UK and Wales.
That aspect of the portfolio includes significant areas of London, including the entirety of Regent Street and half of Westminster’s St James’s district around the corner.
The estate also has properties in Exeter, Oxford, Newcastle, Harlow, Nottingham and Swansea.

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank previously invited the newlyweds to their own royal wedding in October 2018.
Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is good friends with Ms Flohr.
Prince Philippos’ family is closely linked to the British royal family.

Since returning to work after her summer break at the start of October, the 95-year-old monarch has carried out more than a dozen in-person and virtual engagements.
Prince Philip would tell the Queen to slow down, says royal biographer
The Duke of Edinburgh would encourage the Queen to take a step back from Royal duties and prioritise her health, a royal biographer has said.
“I think if Prince Philip was still around, he would exercise a bit of control and say: ‘Look, stop it, don’t go to so many engagements and relax a bit'”, Angela Levin told TalkRadio.
She added: “I think it’s a fight between her head and her body, because she wants to do it, she feels she can, she’s very articulate…but her body is 95 years old.”
Just this month, the queen has so far undertaken 14 engagements across London, Windsor, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Balmoral – on top of her usual daily responsibilities.
The Sussex’s may be more likely to make a return trip to the UK following the Queen’s health scare
Meghan and Harry may be more likely to return to the UK for Christmas following the Queen’s recent hospital stay.
While Palace has been keen to play down health fears for the monarch and insisted she is doing well resting up at Windsor while even attending to some basic royal duties, her recent hospital visit serves as a stark reminder of her advancing age.
Prince Harry is extremely close to his grandmother who has insisted the Sussexes remain much-loved members of her family despite the drama to have engulfed them since their departure from the Fold.
Harry and Meghan welcomed their first daughter Lilibet to the world in May and she is yet to visit Britain and to meet her great-grandmother the Queen, after whom she was named.
After last year’s traditional royal get together was cancelled due to COVID-19, the Queen may be delighted by the prospects of having all her family together under one roof this Christmas.

Pressure mounts on the Firm as notable royals unable to help out
The Queen’s hospital stay has mounted pressure on the Firm, causing a minor crisis, as some notable senior royals are unable to help out and ease the burden.

Speaking on TALKRadio, Royal Correspondent Rupert Bell said: “Unfortunately one’s gone to America and one’s got other things on his mind.”
But Mr Bell noted that Prince Charles was likely to be thinking of ways to “ease the constitutional burden” that is currently mounting on the 95-year-old monarch.
Palace warned against ‘misleading’ the public over Queen’s health
The palace has been warned against the “dangerous strategy” of hiding the Queen’s health updates from the public, as it will erode public trust.
Writing in the Daily Mail, veteran journalist Richard Kay said: “By claiming the Queen was resting at Windsor … when in fact she was in hospital, suggests that the thinking of royal officials was not just muddled but dishonest”.
He said that the “misleading” tactic is similar to one employed when Meghan Markle went into labour with her son Archie, noting that the “statement that the Duchess of Sussex had gone into labour was circulated eight hours after she had actually given birth.”
He added: “I would contend that the issue here is a matter of trust. And anything less than truthful eats away at that trust.”

“And I think when he supported the protesters, what he meant was that he supported what they were protesting about, but he didn’t like the way they were doing it.”
Kate, William and Sophie likely to take on more duties
Kate, Prince William and the Countess of Wessex are among senior royals who will likely increase their royal workload as the Queen’s hectic schedule is rethought.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, said Her Majesty, 95, may see a readjustment in her relentless itinerary following a night in hospital for unspecified reasons.
He said: “The thing about the Queen’s schedule is that it sometimes seems to be often all crammed together. “There will be a period of intense activity and then all will go quiet.
“But I suppose it will have to be reassessed, to pace it. It used to make sense to cram all these things together.
“But when you get to 95, clearly those rules no longer apply.”
Queen will ‘NEVER’ quit
The Queen will “never” abdicate the throne, according to a veteran royal photographer.
Writing for The Sun, Arthur Edwards said: “The problem her aides will now face is trying to stop her doing too much.
“Her pledge to serve the nation at her coronation in 1953 is as firm now as it was back then.
“This is a woman for whom duty and service mean everything.
“Her role is her life.
“And she is determined to carry on that role as long as she can.”

A Palace source told the Mirror the results of the initial tests “could result in the need for further examinations….or confirm that no further tests are necessary”.
