The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s eldest child today celebrated his eighth birthday, prompting fans to look back on his journey through the years in the royal spotlight. The young prince is known for his playful and often cheeky antics in public and melts hearts each time he accompanies his parents on an official royal engagement.

Body language expert Judi James looked back on his public appearances in the past few years to mark George’s latest milestone.

She analysed footage and photos taken during a visit to the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019.

Kate, 39, and William, 39, treated their three children to a visit to the “wilderness garden” the duchess designed for the annual show, aimed at encouraging families to spend time in nature.

Ms James said claimed George showed himself to be a sort of “hero” for his younger siblings.

George plopped down on a little wooden bridge over a stream and Charlotte quickly followed suit.

The expert told the Daily Star: “The way Charlotte quickly sits down beside him suggests he is something of a heroic older brother although both Charlotte and Louis seem full of confidence and social confidence in their own right.”

She also touched on the appearance the Cambridge children made last year during the first nationwide lockdown.

Kate filmed her brood taking part in the weekly Clap for Carers.

Ms James said: “Louis in the middle looks completely happy doing his own thing but at one point he looks up to check he is doing it right and it is telling that the first sibling he looks at is George, suggesting he is prime role model in the group, although he does then also turn to his sister too.”

George’s birth on July 22 2013 sent royal fans into a frenzy and attracted the attention of the world’s media.

The future King thrilled onlookers when he made his debut public appearance on the steps of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, just hours after being born.

Kate and William looked every inch the happy couple as they introduced their firstborn to the world more than two years after getting married.

Kate released an adorable snap of her son to mark his eighth birthday.

The photograph taken by his mother, shows the third-in-line to the throne perched on a Land Rover.

The gesture referenced the late Prince Philip’s famous love for the vehicles.

George is wearing a blue and orange striped polo shirt with blue shorts and is grinning into the camera.

The photograph was taken earlier this month in Norfolk, Kensington Palace said.

George is seen in the grounds of his parents’ country mansion Anmer Hall, which was gifted to them by the Queen as a wedding present.

The resident is close to Her Majesty’s Sandringham Estate.

Kate may have a passion for photography, but she has revealed her children sometimes wish their mother would put her camera down.

Speaking to a finalist of her Hold Still photography contest, the duchess said about George, Charlotte and Louis: “Everyone’s like, ‘Mummy, please stop taking photographs’.”

George has spent the past 12 months living life under lockdown with his siblings and parents and has experienced some unusual things.

Kate has confessed she has been cutting her children’s hair, telling a group of parents in January: “I’ve become a hairdresser this lockdown, much to my children’s horror, seeing mum cutting hair.”

A great-grandchild to the Queen, George will be the 43rd monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England if, as expected, he follows the reigns of his grandfather, the Prince of Wales, and then his father, William.
