Prince Andrew 'summoned' to Balmoral by Queen says royal expert

Prince Charles, 72,  shared a poignant tribute to his late father Prince Philip by posting a throwback family snap of the late Duke of Edinburgh in the garden at Clarence House with  Queen Elizabeth II, a young Charles and his sister Princess Anne.

The black and white photo was taken seven decades ago and shared by the Prince of Wales’s official Twitter account days after the Queen began her summer break at Balmoral.

Clarence House tweeted the image on Wednesday with a heartfelt message.

The tweet read: “Taken 70 years ago this month, this photo shows The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Princess Anne enjoying a warm summer day in the Clarence House garden.”

The Queen marked the start of her summer break in the Scottish Highlands on Monday.

Her holiday will be poignant this year as it is the first time she has been away since the Duke of Edinburgh’s death in April.

The Queen and Philip are known to have treasured their time on the Balmoral Estate and would spend two weeks in a hunting cottage on the grounds before moving into the castle for the rest of the summer.

Balmoral is said to be where the Queen feels most at home as it is one of the few places she can truly relax outside of the royal limelight.

She will welcome guests to stay with her in Aberdeenshire throughout the summer before returning to Windsor Castle in autumn.

Prince Andrew, 61, and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 61, have been spotted at Balmoral in recent days.

Their visit coincides with fresh controversy after Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit in the USA on Monday claiming the Duke of York, sexually abused her when she was 17.

While Andrew has not responded to the latest twist in the Epstein scandal, he has previously categorically denied all allegations of sexual misconduct made against him.

Nonetheless, the drama surrounding his links with deceased paedophile Epstein has not helped the Royal Family’s public image.
