The Prince of Wales is believed to have been planning to reduce the number of working members of the Royal Family to optimise the amount of duties carried out and costs. But following Meghan and Harry’s shocking departure from the Firm, a royal expert has claimed Charles will “ditch” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when he becomes King.

Angela Levin – who has written books on Harry and his mum Diana – said Charles will go ahead with his plans to slim down the Royal Family.

Ms Levin said: “Prince Charles has wanted for a very long time to cut the monarchy down to save costs and to make people be worth the money that they got from the taxpayer.

“I imagine that might be when Harry and Meghan are ditched from being members of the Royal family.

“I think the outer edge, which the Queen has wanted to keep together for a very long time for sentimental reasons, which at her age she didn’t really particularly want change which I think is understandable.

“But he wants to change and I think he will do that.”

Following the death of his father, Prince Philip, Ms Levin believes the Duke of Cornwall will take on more duties.

She continued: “He will also accompany the Queen, it’s said she’s going to be there opening Parliament on May 11 and Prince Charles will be accompanying her.

“I think although she wants to do her duties she will step back, even more, it’ll be quite hard to come back after the pandemic and all the isolation.

“In fact, she will be grateful for him to be taking over in making I imagine quite big decisions on behalf of the Royal Family.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world last year when they announced they were stepping down as senior members of the Firm.

The couple claimed they wanted a more private life and moved to California with their son, Archie.

However, last month, Meghan and Harry sat down with Oprah Winfrey and made several explosive claims about their time as members of the Royal Family.

Meghan told the US chat show host there were conversations about the colour of Archie’s skin before he was born.

Harry also claimed he was cut off financially from his father.

Following the bombshell interview, the Queen issued a statement and claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will always “be much-loved family members”.

The statement read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

For the first time since last March, Harry reunited with his family at Prince Philip’s funeral and reportedly spoke privately with his brother, Prince William, and father, Prince Charles.
