A royal author has claimed this week that the Duke of Sussex blames his father Charles and brother William for the recent strain in their relationship. Omid Scobie, author of the unauthorised biography of the Sussexes titled “Finding Freedom”, said Harry blames his dad Charles and brother William for falling to “own” their part in the ensuing spat. In an interview, together with the latest book excerpts, Mr Scobie said “very little” progress had been made repairing their relationship.

Harry and Meghan Markle have endured a difficult last few years since they were married in 2018.

The couple have opened up on their royal struggles, and how this has also impacted their relationship with the other members of the family.

In October 2019, a royal source claimed that Charles was “absolutely furious” that his sons’ feud could overshadow his work.

The insider told The Sun: “The Prince of Wales is very busy at the moment touring Japan, including a visit with the Welsh rugby team.

“But the point is that this whole kerfuffle has completely undermined the work he is doing, just as it undermined the work Prince William and Kate were doing in Pakistan.”

While William and Harry have been distant in recent months, they came together in July to unveil a statue of their mother Princess Diana.

The brothers said: “We remember her love, strength and character.

“Qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.”

They said they hoped the statue would “be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy” and thanked “all those around the world who keep our mother’s memory alive”.

As for Harry’s relationship with his father, a royal expert has claimed this week that the Prince of Wales has learned from his mistakes.

Ingrid Seward, a royal author and expert, said Charles is “right in the firing line” with Harry, and can “see the mistakes he made”.

In her interview with Newsweek, she also explained how Charles’ plans for a slimmed down monarchy could impact Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Ms Seward added: “It is quite possible that [Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis] are not even going to be involved very much.

“When they’re growing up their grandfather will be on the throne for a bit and he’s talked about this slimmed-down monarchy. I think they will have to be given more freedom.”

A royal insider also told the Daily Mail recently: “Charles has never made any secret of the fact that he wants a slimmed-down monarchy when he becomes King.

“He realises that the public don’t want to pay for a huge Monarchy and, as he said, the balcony at Buckingham Palace would probably collapse.”
